Could Yaya Toure Become Top 5 CM In The PL Era? [Poll]

http://www.premierleague.com/content...338.margin.png

Yaya has had an absolutely amazing season statistically and barring a Gerrard style slip up should have his 2nd PL medal this weekend. Arguably the GOAT season for a CM in terms of dominance topped off with a PL title, being the Driving force behind two PL titles is a solid achievement and then you consider just how dominating he has been since he came to England(bar last season where all of City looked like a joke).

I think most would agree that Scholes is the undisputed number 1 CM with Keane and Vieira finishing the top 3 with Gerrard and Lampard floating around there due to preference too. Could Yaya leapfrog Gerrard or Lampard into the top 5? I personally feel he may of joined the league too late to match them in terms of longevity, but in terms of dominance he is probably a title(after this one) and CL run away from matching them honestly. I have never feared Gerrard or Lampard as much as Yaya Toure. They are obviously great players, but Toure is just a ridiculous mix of strength, pace and technique and I think many fans may well feel that way too in terms of the fear factor. The only thing he needs now is to at least do it for a couple more years. Obviously you could feel Gerrard and Lampard are top 3 themselves so he would overtake someone else, but either way do we think he could be top 5 in the PL Era?

Let's have our debate and this may well turn into a what is the order of the top 5 debate too lol

Hes around the top 10 for sure, but for him to be top 5 he'd be with the likes of Vieira, Keane, Scholes, Lampard & Gerrard and hes not on the same level as what those 5 have done in the league (yet).. Depending on if he continues his current form and wins more trophies for another couple of years then he might have a case.

Agree

I think he's a more gifted player than most, if not all, of those tbh. Very easy to say he might not contribute enough to be "best ever" but have any of those ever been "world player of the year" standard? Nope.

Yes. Don't know about the others but Gerrard has won the UEFA Footballer of the Year Award and came third in the Ballon d'Or

Scholes is number one. Toure, depending on what happens over the next few years, might have a shout at top 5.

bigging up your own players :idc:

jackc1806 08-05-2014 08:28 PM

Agree with the general consensus, if he can perform at the highest level for a long time he'll be up there

MTVN 08-05-2014 08:30 PM

Scholes = overrated, am I right lads

Locke. 08-05-2014 08:31 PM

You are right

As a neutral nothing will come close to Scholes in terms of how much of an impact he had on how United played, he was pretty much the key to United's success for years and years and only Pirlo is in his league as the sort of midfielder that can control the match from the middle, Yaya is great but I don't see him being as consistently amazing as Scholes for years to come

Shaun 08-05-2014 08:34 PM

I'd say the top five are Scholes, Lampard, Gerrard, Toure & Vieira.

not here for roy keane, sorry LK

Drew. 08-05-2014 08:37 PM

Makelele > Toure

Shaun 08-05-2014 08:38 PM

don't make up players, Drew

Ryan57 08-05-2014 08:38 PM

Watching Scholes dictate a game. :flutter:

Claude during Jose's first season was the GOAT dm

Ryan57 08-05-2014 08:41 PM

Amazing to watch.

He already is. He's got the lot and in the modern era of specialists in football he's the only one who is close to being the complete box to box midfielder.

Crimson Dynamo 09-05-2014 07:03 PM

Not only is he a midfield maestro, who resembles Gattuso and Pirlo combined in their prime, but he has a unique fashion style to boot. This is a man who we all watch with such awe.

Some quotes from football's greats about this amazing man.

My greatest opponent? Cattermole of Sunderland. He's the complete midfielder'. - Alberto Aquilani

I'm not the best, Lee Cattermole is. - Hossam Ghaly in his prime.

Out of everyone in England, I would pick out Cattermole – he is the best midfielder of his generation. I would have loved to have played alongside him. - Felipe Melo

He is the one whose level I aspire to. He is the best player in the Premier League. - Tom Cleverley

For years Lee Cattermole has been one of the best players in the Premiership. He’s incredible. He has always been under-rated throughout his career. He’s a team player, a one and two-touch footballer who makes good decisions on the pitch and makes his team play. - Ali Dia

Legend killer 09-05-2014 07:23 PM

Keane
Scholes
Vieria
Maka

In that order the rest are irrelevant. Yaya however good he is looked average in Spain and has feasted in a cm era where the likes of Cleverly Giggs and a retired Scholes have played. Keane and Vieira would both have bossed him off the park

However on talent alone the title WYPOTY should suggest who wins that outright
