Agent Carter

ABC is ramping up its portfolio of Marvel shows by renewing Agents of SHIELD for a second season and ordering a Captain America spinoff.

Hayley Atwell will reprise her role as Peggy Carter in the new series, billed as Marvel's Agent Carter.

The 32-year-old first appeared as the character in 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger and later appeared in the role for Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.

"It's 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalised when the men return home from fighting abroad," ABC's official description reads.

"Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers."

Michele Fazekas, Tara Butters, Steve McFeely, Christopher Marcus and Jeph Loeb will serve as executive producers on the series.

It is not clear how long Marvel's Agent Carter will run for, although writers have previously claimed that it will probably be limited to 13 episodes or fewer.

So many comic book shows lately, The Flash and Constantine are premièring next season too.

I think Agent Carter has potential though, keeping it as a shorter series is the right thing to do, one of the reasons why Agents of Shield was so slow going at the start was because it's a 22 episode season when it probably should have consisted of fewer episodes since so many of them were fillers.

Agents Of Shield gets so much better in the second half of the season, although some of the acting is still off.

Anyway I might give this ago and hopefully it won't make the mistake of trying to be a Soap Opera like a lot of Sci-Fi/Fantasy shows do on Network TV.

I watched the first episode of this last night. I liked it, I love the time period (which is why The First Avenger is my favourite MCU movie) and I love Peggy so I'm here for her being the star.

Hopefully I'll be caught up before Season 2 starts. :)

Binged another 4 episodes last night, only 3 left of season 1 now. :hee:

I'm loving it! A great mix of serious plot and comedic moments and the overarching mystery is really intriguing. And I love Dottie.

Got fully caught up on this last night! Glad it's not too long until season 2!

But I'm already suffering from Peggy withdrawal so I might have to rewatch The First Avenger sometime soon. :hee:

“Marvel’s Agent Carter” returns for a dynamic second season of adventure and intrigue, starring Hayley Atwell in the titular role of the unstoppable Agent Peggy Carter, working for the SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve).

Dedicated to the fight against new Atomic Age threats in the wake of World War II, Agent Carter journeys from New York City to Los Angeles for her most dangerous – and bizarre – assignment yet. East Coast SSR Chief Jack Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) sends Peggy to work with newly appointed West Coast SSR Chief Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj) to explore a strange homicide involving a body that glows and emanates cold.

Upon her arrival, Peggy reunites with Howard Stark’s (Dominic Cooper) butler and her loyal partner-in-crime, Edwin Jarvis (James D’Arcy), who welcomes her to the Hollywood life and sets her up at Stark’s mansion. There, Peggy meets Ana (Lotte Verbeek), Jarvis’ free-spirited and devoted wife to whom she takes an immediate liking.

Eventually, the odd investigation leads Peggy to quirky yet charming scientist Jason Wilkes (Reggie Austin), who quickly becomes an ally — and sparks fly. As Peggy continues to find clues in this peculiar case, she is introduced to the machinations of Whitney Frost (Wynn Everett), a movie starlet, brilliant physicist and the true power behind husband and senatorial candidate Calvin Chadwick (Currie Graham). Calvin, a politician who will do anything to get to the top, befriends Vernon Masters (Kurtwood Smith), a veteran of the War Department with a keen understanding of how to work the system. Peggy soon discovers that corruption seemingly runs deep, making it hard to distinguish the good versus the bad.

The search comes full circle when Russian spy Dottie Underwood (Bridget Regan) returns into Peggy’s life in a new and unexpected way. But even as Peggy discovers a new city, both old and new friends – and potentially a new love – she’s about to learn the bright lights of post-war Hollywood mask a more sinister threat to everyone she is sworn to protect.

Just recently got caught up on the 3 episodes of Season 2 so far. I'm really enjoying it again!

I love Whitney Frost and I like how, even though they're doing their own spin on the character, they're making nods to her comic book alter ego
Spoiler:

with her having an increasingly growing scar on her face, I don't read the comics but I believe in those she wore a gold mask to hide a facial disfigurement.

One tiny little nitpick is that I don't like theme music during the "previously" segments at the start, it just doesn't go well with a lot of the scenes being shown. But as I said that's a nitpick, it has no bearing on the show itself.
