The hour-long episode entitled The Simpsons Guy – which was first teased last year – will see the Griffin family go on a road trip to Springfield and meet their yellow-skinned counterparts.

Speaking at the network’s upfront presentation in New York yesterday, Fox Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly said: ‘Generations of fans will be talking about this one.’

The crossover will see the two families get along well, with Stewie impressed by Bart’s pranks, and Marge and Lois bonding.

Lisa will help Meg find something she’s good at doing, while Homer engages in a debate with his new ‘albino’ friend Peter regarding which beer is better – Pawtucket or Duff.

Simpsons voice actors set to appear in the episode include Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith and Hank Azaria.

The Simpsons Guy will air in the US in September, no word as yet on when we’ll get to see it in the UK.

Yes the simpsons has become tiresome etc but I'm actually looking forward to this

The Simpsons tbf is still a lot better than shows like TBBT, 2 Broke Girls which has just got repetitive, and How I Met Your Mother which I know is finished now.
