So so sad... Such an iconic building and so much work has been destroyed. I know quite a few people who studied there and are devastated.. Not only is the current degree show gone, all the archives and library are too :(

We'll it was evacuated safely, so I'm assuming there was adequate fire escapes.

Apparently it was caused by an exploding projector in the basement; I don't think Charles Rennie MacKintosh could have planned for such an event :)

Smithy 23-05-2014 04:28 PM

if it had been in the basement wouldn't everything be alight, by the looks of it, it's just that top floor

Apparently it's gone right up through the whole building :(

Josy 23-05-2014 04:34 PM

Ah that's awful

Shaun 23-05-2014 04:34 PM

-was going to make a joke about it being greg's fault but this thread's taken a depressing turn-

arista 23-05-2014 05:04 PM

Yes was the projector plugged into a overloaded socket?

Sack the Fire Officer that said it was good working order

I was walking up Sauchiehall Street at lunch time today and there was smoke everywhere, couldn't breathe properly - could see all the fire engines but wasn't sure what had caught fire until my friend texted me to say... so sad, I had plans to go take the tour with my mum before I graduated in June and now we won't be able to - what a horrible thing to happen, it's one of the most iconic buildings in Glasgow!
