Imagine getting off the troop carriers and wading into water as Germans with tripod mounted machine guns shot at you like shooting ducks, just hoping if one gets you it kills you instantly. Grim.

So should we have not
made a pact with Poland
then

Can't even begin to think how it would feel getting off the transports as your friends and countrymen are getting blown to pieces left-right and centre.

True bravery from the Allies, liberating Europe from the Wehrmacht with the price of their lives.

The war was like all like wars a pointless waste of life, fightning over nothing for the result of nothing. and it destroyed england as a empire. since we have been reduced from a bulldog country into a snappy lil dog that barks at the world but without the bite no longer,

but saying all that. we done the right thing and even if we would of not got involved we still would of ended up in war anyway.

i smile when i think england declared war lol a tiny little country like ours thats some balls lol

It is sad to see the difference between their generation to ours now, These men going into war with a near guarantee of death compared to the embarrassments we live with now with men unhappy at earning 100k a week kicking a ball around, Reality TV stars thinking the world has come to an end when they split up with their short term partners & young people growing up idolizing the likes of Joey Essex who aren't interested in the past.

Sad to think this may well be the last time these men get together and remember,Very brave and should be revered.

A doubt we will never be able to repay, seeing those pictures makes you proud to be British and makes you proud of the way we handled the war back then, looking back we really couldn't have done anymore, like Drew said its a shame they are now witnessing an awful era where a lot of people simply have no interest for learning about the War or showing respect of anykind, massive respect to Zhukov and the Red Army as well for liberating Berlin, to me he is the World's greatest military figure and probably always will be

I wanted to write something about the 70th anniversary of D-Day. Last night though, I heard the song below. Jim Radford was 15 years old on D-Day, the youngest man serving, a galley boy on a deep sea tug. Singer-songwriter Jim wrote this song for the people that fell. It says it all.
