Local councils propose 'Tesco tax' on large supermarkets to raise revenue
This is all in order to help small shops stay alive.
Ch4HD News said 19 local authorities are in favour of the tax. [Local councils have asked the government to give them new powers to tax large supermarkets under a system similar to that already in place in Scotland and Northern Ireland. A group of 20 local councils have backed what has been dubbed a "Tesco tax" in order to increase revenues which they say would be invested in the local community. Derby city council has called for the right to impose a levy on large supermarkets, which it says could earn the local authority an estimated £2m a year.] http://www.theguardian.com/society/2...rease-revenues |
Maybe these councils could stop wasting money on pointless stuff instead. Our council recently built this ugly looking thing in the middle of town, cost over a million. Last month they had to recover it all due to wind/rain damage, which cost close to another million.
I dont see why supermarkets should put their prices up (which is all that will happen) because councils waste vast amounts of cash on crappy things. |

I don't see what it achieves except allowing homeless people a warmer place to sleep.. |
