Getting rid of mice?

I turned the light on when I went to the kitchen and saw a mouse run across the room, think it's gone into hiding now but I'm guessing there'll be more than one... anyone know how to get rid of them quickly?

Marsh. 28-07-2014 01:51 AM

Poison.

Jessica. 28-07-2014 02:31 AM

You'll have to burn your house down, I'm sorry.

Ammi 28-07-2014 02:35 AM

...oh how strange, I thought we had a mouse yesterday...I felt something running about in the bedroom at 3am yesterday morning and saw this dark shadow thing running across the floor...so it was a bit of a shock and I woke up my OH who armed himself with a hairdryer all ready for battle..and then anyway, after a bit he found it and it wasn't a mouse at all, it was a frog..:amazed:...it took ages to catch it and get it in a bag and put it outside but now I am haunted by 3am and woke up at 3am again this morning.....all I can think about is frogs/frog invasions....

AnnieK 28-07-2014 07:18 AM

Get a cat! Failing that you can get humane traps to catch them and take them outside...

Ammi...my cats brought a frog in last week, took me ages to catch the little blighted - then Matthew wanted to keep it as a pet

Ammi 28-07-2014 07:21 AM

..I think I have a thing about frogs now, it was just so slimy to touch ..Matthew should come live with me because I have hundreds in the garden and that's fine but I don't like them in the house that much......he could name them all and built a frog den maybe...

Your kitchen must be cleaned

No need
a old type trap works better

Kizzy 28-07-2014 09:27 AM

Cheese on a mousetrap?... too much tom and jerry arista

Have a look around see if there's any holes where they might be getting in and block them with brillo pads ( wire wool)
Make sure there is NO food source, not one crumb Keep all your packet foodstuff in glass or sealed plastic containers.

Yes but they are cheap and work for years
never mind old cartoons

billy123 28-07-2014 10:37 AM

Put peanut butter on the traps thats what the pro's use.

source: I watched a program on telly once where they had a really cute Jack Russell that they used to tear the head off rats. :joker:
It was called The rat pack i think it was good telly.

I meant the cheese bit really grump.
If there's nothing for them to eat they won't come in so no need for traps.

Josy 28-07-2014 10:56 AM

Can you not phone a pest control company? or if you live in rented accommodation contact your landlord?

hijaxers 28-07-2014 10:58 AM

If you've seen one sorry to say you probably have dozens , a cat will drive em out or poison - its horrid but the humane traps (you'll need loads of them) they love peanut butter in them ! they do work but it goes on forever as they breed faster than you can catch em. Find where they are getting in a shoot some that expanding foam in.

Oh yeah forgot about this stuff, don't forget mice can squeeze through a hole the width of a pencil.

Cherie 28-07-2014 11:31 AM

Once in you do need to act to get them out, don't ignore and hope they go away, traps are more humane than poison, at least death is instant

if you can push a pen through a hole a mouse can get through it.

Nutella on the trap is best but overall a cat is boss

I lived near a field when I was little and during summer we would always get mice and putting poison in hidden places like behind the couch and stuff where it's pretty dark is good. Just get your pets out the house if you're going to leave poison lying around.

You've watched too many cartoon's, this isn't Tom and Jerry

Alf 28-07-2014 11:07 PM

I've just realised Kizzy already said that one.

Livia 29-07-2014 11:00 AM

I get field mice in my house around harvest when the fields ar being disturbed. Because I've got a cat they don't tend to stay very long but sometimes one will stick around... and sometime Reg (the cat) brings in critters and drops them for the fun of watching me try to catch them. For these occasions I have humane traps. I was advised to use Marmite on a little piece of bread, the trap shuts behind the mouse and he's... well, trapped. Then I let them loose.

Crimson Dynamo 29-07-2014 11:30 AM

my devil dog catches them in the fields and crunches then down in one. The downside is mouse parts in the poo.
