Sabine Lisicki hits fastest recorded serve in WTA history
Sabine Lisicki recorded the fastest ever serve in WTA history as she fired down a 131mph bullet against 2008 French Open champion Ana Ivanovic.
During her first round match at the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, California, Lisicki delivered her booming serve on game point to move 6-5 up in the first set. Serbia's Ivanovic managed to get her racket on the ball, but her attempted return sailed wide. Ivanovic, however, went on to win the first set on a tie-break 7-6(2) and clinched the match by taking the second 6-1. Lisicki, who has been affectionately known as 'Boom, Boom Lisicki' by ESPN pundit and former coach Brad Gilbert, replaces Venus Williams as the record holder for the fastest serve in the women's game. The American struck her 129mph thunderbolt at the 2007 US Open In the men's game, Australian Sam Groth still holds the record for the fastest serve. Groth, the then world No 340 sent down a 163.7 mph bullet during a Challenger Tournament in Busan, South Korea, in 2012. The record had been held by giant Croat Ivo Karlovic during a Davis Cup match against Germany in March 2011. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/ten...-Ivanovic.html When will Vika? |
