always harp on about how the past was better, do you agree with these people or are you glad you're living in modern times? Or do you think there's pros and cons to each?

Pro's and cons to both but growing up in the 80's and 90's I do feel as if it was a better childhood than the youth of today if I'm honest.

I mean I saw a five year old family member with her own iPhone today albeit her parents old one but I still think it's absolutely mental.

Both the past and the present have things that are good and bad.

I love today's technology at yesterday's pace.

Pros and cons to each obviously but I do miss the simplicity of years ago.

I don't like how everyone is instantly reachable on Facebook, mobile, text, FaceTime, Skype, twitter etc etc. Technology/information overload.

I mean I get that it's great for when you have family members in other countries you can see them but overall it's just annoying.

Wouldn't choose any other time. Technology and the internet are amazing.

For better or worse, I'm looking forward to seeing how the future is shaped with their growing importance in our daily lives. Won't be surprised if it's a technology-driven Deus Ex-like dystopia - bring it on :p

Both have good and bad.

I love talking to people much older than myself however and hearing their life stories and it does seem my generation,in my opinion only obviously, has allowed to be lost a lot of community coming together and looking out for one another.

Looking back at many things, education and the NHS for instance, things seemed to run better and with more continuity than they do now.
The advances in technology that now exist for us now should have made for as near perfection as you could get as to most things.
For me however, listening to people older and reading back over life decades ago,it seems to me that then we already had a lot of the answers but now we have left ourselves with the questions again.

That'd literally be the worst outcome. I don't think it'll happen though, not in a big way.

I voted for 'neither'. There are good things and bad things about growing up in any time. I'd prefer growing up as I have since technology, video games and having access to film is very important to me and I don't even know what I'd do in a world without those things. But then I think childhood's these days seem horrible; the shows on TV are awful, the over-sexualisation of younger people is awful, their nastiness seems to be getting worse (which I sort of blame the internet for, because it gives them a medium to be anonymous and say and do what they like without fear of punishment and transfer that behaviour to real life).

I feel like my generation had it the best, but think most people would say that about their own generation :D

..today/now is most definitely the best time for me...'back in the day' though is how we came to be now and is our memories and all we have of some times/people etc that we don't always have now so it's always going to bring nostalgia and ...ahhhh, that was great back then ..it's all what has made us what we are now but I would never want to go back there and love everything that today brings and knowing my children as grown ups and how fine they are...

Yeah, agree with people who are saying neither but technology isn't one of the reasons I'd stay in this period if I had the chance ... I'm sure people in the 70s thought that their basic computers were the equivalent of our tablets in the same way that our technology will be seen as primitive in as little as 20 years. It might be easy to say we have it easy but looking back this will be seen as just another time in history not nearly as advanced as the next generation.

Definitely. I just find it odd how people always look at the older times as archaic and this century to be all technological when people thought the exact same thing back then... for one we still haven't found other forms of life yet and we still don't know for sure the origin of the universe. That and the fact that we still die unfairly (car/plane crashes etc) makes it clear we still have a lot of advancing to do IMO.

..alas I don't think we will 'meet' other life forms in our lifetimes but how incredible that would be...

Guessing there must be something out there though. Whether they're aliens or not I dunno but it would be crazy to think that only humans on planet Earth exist.

I'm not against technology per se. It's a wonderful thing to see progressing in many ways.

It's the trivial side to it I hate, the social networking, the 6 monthly gadget upgrades (not that I buy into it), the 'now, now, now' generation. Detest it.

..the good thing about how quickly it advances is that it brings down the cost of things so drastically so that many more people can find it affordable..you know like phones..?..they're released at crazy prices but it doesn't take long at all before they're 'so last year'....I hate doing upgrades on my phone because the first one I ever did somehow lost all my info/contacts..everything so now I put it off as long as I can and have got quite OCD about it....

Yeah, it can be quite addictive. It's all about learning that you will never be able to keep up I suppose. You just have to go at your own pace. :laugh:

I'm glad I grew up when I did; at the tail end of the pre-technology-driven era. I grew up on the internet but I had a childhood without it before it came along in a major way. I'm fascinated by the past but I wouldn't have liked to have lived at any time prior to the one I live in. We're very fortunate.

I'm sure there are pros and cons to any time of growing up, but I feel fortunate to have grown up during the 21st century given how technology educated we are.

What Josy said I mean when I grew up I felt like I had a childhood but now its like Josy said 5 year olds have iphones now and that doesn't fit right with me
