Bully (overused word on the forums)

I have been thinking about posting this thread for awhile and tonight with another few threads saying that housemates are being bullied has prompted me to finally put it out there (my views on it)

To me a bully is someone who belittles, abuses, verbally hurts, physically hurts a smaller or weaker person who is unable to stand up for themselves. I. like I am sure many other forum members was bullied from a very young age. I was one of the smallest in my class in school and was quite bright when it came to homework etc. Therefore I was picked on, my hair was pulled, the kids told the teacher I slapped them, my school bag destroyed, my copybooks written on.

I know that adults can also bully other adults so I am not saying that it just happens with kids. In all the years I have watched Big Brother (both civilian and celebrity) I have only seriously seen what I DEEM to be bullying in one series and that was when Jade and the other two girls bullied Shilpa. They kept attacking her for various reasons, her beliefs, her looks etc and almost backed her into a corner. There is NOBODY being bullied in the house at the moment. Sure they are all against Gary but he is taking it well and smiling away and just discarding the comments.

Having being bullied myself I am very very careful of the use of the word and I would urge everyone to think twice before they rant on about bullying. And before anyone says it I am fully aware that BB has called housemates to the diary room from time to time to ask them about their actions and telling them it could be perceived as bullying.

So sorry my post is so long and I hope that at least some of you can see where I am coming from

You do realise gary is being bullied

the truth 28-08-2014 11:37 PM

you sound like james giving his fake lecture to gary. gary is being bullied , mainly because of his disability, discrimination in one of its lowest forms. imagine how nasty these people would be with no cameras or in a care home?

Words & titles

I think you are making a lot of fuss over a word when it's the behaviour you should be looking at.

Do I think Gary is being bullied? I would probably say no because I don't think he is feeling bullied, and I do think you have to feel it, though it is hard to tell because he doesn't make a fuss.

Do I think some of the housemates (a lot of them) are exhibiting bullying nasty behaviour? Absolutely.

Do -I- think they are bullies? Absolutely.

Also gary is being treated far worse than shilpa

The more fitting word would be isolation, rather than bullying.

Benjamin 28-08-2014 11:41 PM

I do agree that generally on this forum the words bully/bullying are overused.

Mystic Mock 28-08-2014 11:42 PM

I agree that Gary isn't being bullied yet, but I do think that there is a lot of xenophobia going on in the house with comments like “French slut” and “the Americans” and “I don't like that French girl.”

But I actually think that the bully word was way more overused during BB15 than this series tbh as at least Gary and Frenchy are being genuinely isolated from the house and not forcing themselves out except for (Christopher and Ashleigh) but I suppose two strong bullying accusations back to back on the forum is enough to drive anyone insane.

I hate how easily the word gets flung around tbh but this time I must admit I kinda agree with people that are saying it, not quite 100% but I'm leaning in that direction.

Live Feed after Wednesdays eviction was actually horrendous to watch.

Gary is being isolated in that house, targeted, blamed for things that he can't help, discriminated against and basically treated like crap.

Every time James pretends to be 'talking' to him it always ends with Gary having to say sorry for something or other.

Maybe not quite bullying yet but he is definitely being targeted and isolated.

Pincho Paxton 28-08-2014 11:44 PM

Typing 'Bully' is quicker than typing 'Gary is being picked on in a degrading, and hurtful manner." every time you want to describe what is happening.

the truth 28-08-2014 11:45 PM

gary is being bullied 100%. the fact hes an absolute legend and able to take it, is irrelevant to the fact he is still being bullied. the word bullied isnt over used its just used inappropriately at times. this is systematic 24 hours a day bullying. voting a man out because of his disability is the very essence of discrimination

I think that discrimination may be a better way to describe what is happening in there than bullying but I'm not sure it's enough to describe the sort of humiliation they are heaping on him. I find it pretty disturbing but it's a relief that he doesn't seem to be taking it all to heart. Then again how can we possibly know what he is thinking.

Northern Monkey 28-08-2014 11:49 PM

Just because somebody does'nt act like a victim does'nt mean that they can't be bullied.

No I don't. It's too consistant and it's on the live feed. The nominations were horrid, the way Stephanie spoke to him was way out of line.

No definitely not, we saw it much clearer on the Live Feed and it was worse than what we see on the highlights IMO.

I 100% agree with this. so too was dirk benedict and michael madsen , who was hit in the face by denise welch and bigbrother did NOTHING.
clearly if youre a man, dare I say it a white hetrosexual man, then the threshold fo rbullying and discrimination is much higher and big brother ignores it. but shilpa was a woman and an asian woman so she was protected 101 times more than dear olf half deaf half brain damaged harmless 70 year old gary busey

the double standards in this man bashing sexist biased show and country at large makes me sick

puzzled 28-08-2014 11:57 PM

He does feel it. He said that everyone hated him and it hurt his heart, to Frenchy. Sometimes he looks very abandoned, but he makes the best of it. He does everything to appease them and make it stop, but they just go on and on. James, particularly, just can't let anything drop, and Stephanie was cruel.

So what you're saying is.. If you're a straight white man on the show, you're bullied more than anyone else? I struggle to see your logic there, but each to their own.. And the Dirk Benedict thing, when was he 'bullied' may I ask?
