Kellie said Gary was the biggest player in the house & knows how to play the old man

When Kellie told us Gary hadn't been rude to her all that meant was that he hadn't been rude to her.

I noticed how her also saying that he was a player that knew how to play the old man was conveniently not mentioned, avoided from being said on the other thread

yet she said that too

ofcourse he knows how to play a part play up to it for the sympathy vote he's a hollywood actor for goodness sake he's fooled most who've been backing him all along

Black Dagger 07-09-2014 12:31 AM

I'm interested to understand what fundamental issue there is with Gary that makes people search for the minutest faults within him. Is anyone perfect? What is it that makes Gary be accountable to higher standards than anyone else. This is a genuine question, I would like to understand it.

rusticgal 07-09-2014 09:17 AM

Apart from the deafness I have never seen Gary acting or behaving like an old man....oh and going to bed early.

If when he comes out, he takes out the hearing aid and declares that he was faking it all along (obviously i don't think he is faking being deaf, just giving an example, before anyone jumps down my throat) how would it make the people who has supported him feel? knowing that he won by pretending to have a disability?
And in the process annoying everybody and deliberately winding them up so he can play the victim, all while totally destroying their character, would that not be relevant to him being a fake?
(again, just giving examples, don't hate me xo)

Of course hes playing the game, as indeed they all are. Garys just doing better
than the rest of them, not only is he more entertaining hes also an interesting character, unlike the rest of the big bores. I hope he wins.

Yes.. that's obvious.. but just because they're old men, doesn't mean they all act like old men, look at that show that was on recently, about those old people in Ibiza (iirc) they didn't act like old people did they? She was saying that he is good at playing to the old man sterotype.

We could all come up with hypothetical scenarios. I know Gary is playing the game, that is what it is all about after all :)

The way I approach it is who can play the game but keep it entertaining without getting nasty and vindictive. For me, Gary wins, personal opinion, and it won't be the end of the world if Gary is not crowned the winner in the end, he has given me the most enjoyment, and is probably my favourite housemate of all time

Yes it was as obvious as your first comment in reply to me tbh.

The OP says that Gary 'knows how to act the old man' which I found to be completely pointless because he is an old man..your comment never really added anything of worth after that did it? just pointed out the obvious much like the OP comment did IMO

And for anyone aware of Gary before CBB he is acting the exact same in the house as out of it, apart from being a bit subdued at times due to some of the other hm's.

I'm not sure there is any objective definition of "old man". Lets face it with more and more people living into their 100s and the retirement age rising and rising - 70 is getting to be like the new 50.

I think "behaving like an old man" is pretending to be vulnerable and less able when you are more than capable.

Not all old men have had serious accidents and had brain surgery then coupled with hearing disabilities too to be fair.

He doesn't pretend to be vulnerable though. He is a bit unsteady on his feet at times which is understandable and he is almost deaf.

Theres no pretending involved.

I've seen him use his age to excuse things however. He could have used his brain surgery of course, I don't really care.

I wasn't the one stating that he was playing the old man, that was Kelly.
She obviously saw a lot more of what goes on than we do.

I didn't say they did?.. I'm just pointing out that just because someone is old, doesn't mean they act that way, his brain surgery wouldn't limit him to acting like an old man, neither would deafness, i know that the accidents had serious effects on him, but that wouldn't stop him from acting younger than he is.. take for example, when he was running around the house tickling Ricci, then throwing himself against the toilet door to get to him, It's very rare to see someone of his age to be that energetic, so that shows that he is quite capable on his feet and in himself.
But then is quite happy to sit there and say that he has a bad knee, say that he can't hear people very well, which he can't so fair play, all of which portrays someone who wants to be seen as an old man.
Oh before i forget and this isn't aimed at you in Joey, just people in general.. since people on here need such clarification, this is my opinion, in no way am i stating this as fact :)

Well to be quite I honest I see no problem with that in certain circumstances, he certainly isn't the first housemate to be excused from certain things due to age.

I don't have a problem with anyone stating he is acting the old man my points were, he is an old man so I find it a bit pointless to say he is acting one.
