Question for parents

Would you be upset if your son (or daughter) got married privately and without telling you?

Would you understand if they told you that they felt a wedding was a private affair between them and the person they love and that they wanted to experience it that way or would you feel that was selfish and that parents and loved ones should always be present to share the day?

Cheers.

..it's not really a question I could answer because there are so many circumstances that could go with it, I think...

Kyle 17-09-2014 07:09 AM

Regardless of circumstance Ammi would you be disappointed?

Ammi 17-09-2014 07:12 AM

..if I could imagine that happening with my sons..?...I would know that there would be a very good reasoning with it so I would respect that and what they want..it's much more important that you're part of their whole lives than one day out of it...

Kyle 17-09-2014 07:13 AM

Ok that's fair enough, thanks Ammi.

..I guess the thing is as well is that if they were already married and had done it 'secretly' then what would it achieve by being upset..you could kick and scream and shout....but it wouldn't change anything...and after all, the day is less important than the vows themselves..weddings and guest lists can be a nightmare anyway...just seeing how stressed it was all making them, I would probably much more feel...ughh, just go and elope....

Yes, there would be no end to my wrath.

Is seeing your sons getting married something you look forward to?

..tbh it's not something I think about, they both have partners and they're both happy atm, so that's lovely to see and I don't really think beyond that to marriage/children etc....those are all their decisions and I have no 'expectations' from them and I have no 'urges' to become a other in law or grandparent or anything...I'm very blessed that they still want to spend time with us even though they're both grown ups and I feel that they would talk over big decisions and choices in their lives because they always do and always have..so I guess it goes back really to something I would find hard to imagine but if either of them did feel they wanted to do it in secret type thing...I would know they had very good reasons which were right for them...
