A white tiger at the New Delhi Zoo has attacked and killed a young man inside the tiger enclosure.

There are mixed reports as to whether the young man jumped, or has accidentally fallen into the enclosure, and even the age of the individual. However, the most credible reports indicate the young man was an Indian student who slipped while taking photo's.

National Zoological Park spokesman Riyaz Ahmed Khan said the man ignored repeated warnings that he should not get too close to the outdoor enclosure and climbed over a knee-high fence and small hedges.

Authorities eventually frightened the tiger into a small cage inside the enclosure. Police arrived on the scene "very quickly", but could not save his life. The man, whose body remained in the outdoor enclosure two hours after the attack, was dead by the time help reached him, Mr Khan said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police M.S. Randhawa identified the man only as Maqsood and said he was thought to be about 20 years old.

Your report seems to be missing something, all other news articles said the man was clearly very drunk.

at least he was probably too drunk to feel the pain.

It looks like the tiger grabbed him by the neck and instantly broke his neck. the body looked pretty lifeless once the tiger started carrying him away, hopefully he died quickly.

Why didn't they just shoot it with a tranquilliser gun?

I doubt they would, it's not like it's a dog who's gone crazy and killed someone, it's a wild animal that everyone would have expect to kill a human if they got into the cage with him, there would be no justification in killing the tiger

..poor guy..I haven't watched the vid but I think it was just one of those tragic things really. he came within the tiger's space and was attacked and I doubt that they will kill it for doing that....

It was awful Ammi.....the tiger lunged at the man and then dragged him off by his head, the man at this point wasn't moving so it appears the man died quickly, what was more shocking is that they left the body in the tigers enclosure for 2 hours:shocked:

Iv been drunk before but have never had the urge to jump into a Tigers lair
