If Only
 

'If only' are said to be the two saddest words in the English language because they can only imply regret. I have a myriad 'If Only's';

If only I had studied my text books at school instead of the girl at the next desk's legs.

If only I could take back every hurtful word and deed I was ever guilty of.

If only I had spent more time caressing my children in those all too fleeting moments when they were young.

What's yours?

Life's too short to have regrets kirk. Whatever it is you've done you must have had a reason at the time and you can chose to either accept it or learn from it. Everything has a value to it and that's what makes you the man or woman you are today. Every success, every failure and especially every missed opportunity.
Ruminating on 'what if's' will serve only to entrench the belief that you made a mistake when the only mistake that a person can make is to not come out of it wiser for the experience.

For not trying harder at school...

"If only" is in the past, live in the present.

I believe we are all exactly where we should be at this precise moment, if i was meant to study harder at school i would have (that would be my if only!)

Here i am nearing 40 and studying at college, because i was meant to study at college nearing 40.

I was meant to skip school, drinking cheap cider at the bandstand.
I was meant to be obsessed with boys from a young age.
I was meant to be rebellious.

Life is too short for regrets.
I think in my life all the mistakes I've made, of which I've made a lot, have helped me to become the person i am today.
I don't want to reach a certain age, look back on my life and see a life full of regrets so i don't dwell on anything, i learn from things i do and put everything down to lack of experience.
My parents keep telling me not to get tattoos or piercings (i already got one of them) because I'd regret them when I'm 80, but in my eyes, what I've done in the past will hardly be my main worry when I'm 80.

If only I had someone to make me a coffee right now
