Goodbye threads

Are they tacky? cheesy? do you feel like if someone wants to leave they should just leave and stop being dramatic and extra with the long goodbye speeches?

Shaun 26-09-2014 12:07 AM

I haven't seen one in ages but they are solely for attention, really. I can say this because I've definitely made one or two in my early days on here

Ninastar 26-09-2014 12:10 AM

i've made them when i've been really emotional, so yeah, probably is for attention.

but if it's for a reason like a family emergency or s/t, then I can understand

Raph 26-09-2014 12:17 AM

it depends I made one in 2010 and then didnt return until 2012, and that wasn't for attention, but more an easier way to let people know I would be taking a break from the forum. Definitely attention seeking if you're back the next week though

King Gizzard 26-09-2014 12:19 AM

Nah, deleting avatar and signature always does the trick m8

Jords 26-09-2014 12:30 AM

If youre not gonna be on very regular for a particular reason (e.g. work, vacation, absence of internet etc.) then no probs.

Kizzy 26-09-2014 12:35 AM

I've had enough of this place! Seriously I'm going to delete myself just letting everyone know, bye then.... bye forever!

Kizzy 26-09-2014 12:41 AM

Hi! remember me? wow the place looks so different! :D I missed you all, I hope you all appreciated I needed a break xxxxxx

Xtopher 26-09-2014 01:57 AM

The other board I was on, people hated them. Then again we got a couple every week. I think it is tacky. Best to leave in silence.

lostalex 26-09-2014 03:06 AM

It depends on the person and their reasons for leaving.

Some people it makes you roll your eyes and it's obnoxious. Some people I can respect why they are leaving and they seem genuine.

Ammi 26-09-2014 04:18 AM

....hmmmm, I think they can 'bring out the best..' or 'bring out the worst..'...maybe that depends on the reasons are maybe even the person making them/I don't know..?..'bye, I'm back off to uni/going travelling..' etc...'good luck..'..

...'there's stuff going on in my life, maybe not all good and I need to give that attention right now..'...'aww, good luck with that..'...

.....I think these are things 'beyond control..'...but then I think that there are times and for whatever reasons that a lot of people can feel just generally a bit lost on the forum or maybe they're upset about something/disillusioned etc...maybe they feel isolated..?..so maybe they make a thread/intend to leave/maybe the forum isn't a great place for them at that moment...'attention' is just a certain way that some people react/how their emotions are expressed, we're all different that way but there is no 'right' way, it's just how we are...and maybe what they're saying is....'hmmmm, I've lost a bit of perspective here/I'm not feeling great on the forum atm..' ..so they're just basically feeling low ...and then just to make them feel worse, there is so often...'bye hun, cya tomoz..x..'...yeah, I never really understand that...that person is trying to say something/communicate in the way they know how..?...it's no different or any less valid than someone who might take down their avatar/sig..interact less and less, maybe just tell a few close friends that they're not feeling great around the forum..?..they're just different ways is all but I think for most people, they can see that person is in 'pain'/'feeling in crisis..' etc..and how would they feel themselves if at that low time, they felt 'laughed at'/ridiculed/not taken seriously and just need a ..hey, everything ok..?....

..yeah, the best and the worst....

lostalex 26-09-2014 04:29 AM

I've gone bye-bye many times on this forum, but i never had the opportunity to make a goodbye thread :(

..maybe I shouldn't laugh at that but.....I always miss you when you're on 'bye bye..' though...

Ammi 26-09-2014 04:38 AM

...I think it's just that a goodbye thread can in some situations be a 'I need a hug..' thread and then what they can get is...bye/lolz..and I don't think any of us can't relate to how that would feel if it was us...not great...

MTVN 26-09-2014 07:14 AM

Farewell ITILYT

Josy 26-09-2014 07:27 AM

When it's overly dramatic 'That's it, OMG I can't take it, had enough, deleting sig and avatar and never coming back' and the person is clearly going to be back on the following day then it's attention seeking and annoying and the threads often descend into arguing and insults.

If it's a genuine goodbye then fair enough.

Yes Jesus (Jesus H. Christ)
avoided that by telling some of us
in private
before he left us for good.

That was a Great way to leave for good

thesheriff443 26-09-2014 08:03 AM

its like crying wolf!, when you give it the large about leaving and then come back a few days later, I think the poster loses a bit of credibility.

if you are feeling low!, message your friends on the forum as they will give you support and you wont get a negative reaction from posters you don't get on with.

kirklancaster 26-09-2014 08:10 AM

I would respond to this, but I have already left for good (without fuss or bother) so am unaware of it. :hehe:

What?

Vicky passed up on the chance to get rid of you for good?

What is she playing at!

And yet I am still here, like the big mole on your backside. You know it's there and you want rid of it but you just can't.

LukeB 26-09-2014 10:25 AM

I never created one i normally just don't come on the site after big brother and then i normally forget my password

Z 26-09-2014 10:29 AM

I think the only time I've ever seen someone make a dramatic "I AM LEAVING" thread and they actually meant what they said was Ruth, years ago. She was here one day and never came back . I think they're fine if you're letting people know that you'll be away for a while but the dramatic flouncing out threads are just attention seeking.
