Brilliant. What a great way to stick a finger up to the mainstream supermarkets, just goes to show you can have amazing value and still lead with profits.

I actually don't get the Aldi hype... mine is crap! the workers are annoying and unhelpful, they sell their inferior brand products that are nothing like as good as they make out for not much less than the branded products...
Not a fan tbh.

Just done a weeks shop at Aldi. ...All fresh fruit and veg, meat and other stuff for £42 for 3 of us. Would be at least 50% more at testosterone for same things.

The Aldi speciality fishcakes are amazing

I've got an Aldi opening soon about 10 miles from me, in what used to be a Co-op. I'm looking forward to it, never been in one before. There's a Morrisons and a Tesco there already and I bet they're crapping themselves!

I will try the fishcakes.

Sophiee 29-09-2014 02:41 PM

aldi is one of the top supermarkets, amazing prices :worship:.

Kizzy 29-09-2014 02:43 PM

Nothing beats Leeds market :)

Josy 29-09-2014 03:08 PM

Aldis fresh fruit and veg are almost half the price of the other supermarkets and they are just as good. IMO

Also their fresh bags of stirfry veg and beef stirfry strips are great too.

I actually go to the Aldis in the next town quite a lot, it's weird though, there is 2 stores and I find the products in one of them to be crap quality compared to the other

I find that too Josy my local Aldi is fab but the one near my work is awful.....badly set out and the stuff is never as good....weird

Maybe they'll be willing to have enough staff on duty to have more than one check out running at a time now... or even a self-service "baskets only" terminal or something at least?

I do like aldi, the food is great quality and definitely keeps the weekly shop cost down significantly, BUT... it drives me mental when I want to go in to pick up a couple of things during my lunch half-hour and there are 4 or 5 people with full trollies waiting at the one available check out. I'm not waiting 15 minutes to buy a pack of ham and some yoghurts...

They also treat their staff like ****, which is unfortunate, but in most of the larger towns their grunt staff is mainly students who won't be staying long term anyway so that's not so much of a problem. Wouldn't want to be a lifer there. Their record for staff welfare is abysmal.

I've found that too... though it only affects the quality of fresh stuff. But, we were recently down in Engerland visiting my inlaws and went to the Aldi there. The stuff was all the same as our local one - but the layout was horrendous (boxes piled everywhere), there were bits of cardboard and half-emptied stock boxes all over the place, and if you had a good look around... the place was absolutely filthy. Like around the windows and in the corners at the ceiling, genuinely grimey. It's never like that in our local one... always very clean and well organised.

I guess the same can be said of any chain, though. Our local Tesco - whilst always clean and tidy - has an absolutely INSANE layout that follows absolutely no rhyme or reason. You go in and pick up some nappies, search everywhere nearby for baby wipes, but no.... they're next to the cereal at the other end of the shop :conf:

Its Not Hype
shoppers on TV News
showed their shopping trolly's
and saying it would Cost Double that
in their Tesco.

Novo 30-09-2014 08:50 AM

I like those Sea Salt Crisps they do there, always pop in there to get a few bags, best not rise the price of them after this success or its all going to kick off here and Aldi will have a long court battle on their hands
