Train ticket discounts?

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any train ticket discounts? I'm planning on going to see someone, but the overall cost of getting there and back is £66.

Does anyone know of any discounts they could suggest? I'd really appreciate it.

Yeah, I've used The TrainLine a few times. The trouble is that you're committed to one particular train to get the cheapest rate, and if you miss that train or want to return early, you're buggered.

I think you can student discount? like this http://www.16-25railcard.co.uk/

only thing is that it costs, suppose it depends if you use it alot..

LukeB 01-10-2014 12:40 PM

Megabus does cheap tickets

they do coaches and trains

Vanessa 01-10-2014 12:42 PM

National express is also cheap.

MTVN 01-10-2014 12:48 PM

Doubt you will have much luck finding anything cheaper really, the only thing you could try is different routes or different times

The 16-25 railcard is great value though, have had one for the last three years and has probably saved me a few hundred quid though I do use train travel a fair bit

Jarrod 01-10-2014 02:20 PM

Thanks everyone. :)

London Midland usually have a "great getaway" thing on and I know it was on recently because I got an email, but it might have finished by now.

When you've searched on Virgin Trains as well, beneath the initial times and prices page there should be something that says "Results are based on end-to-end tickets for the fastest available trains. Click here to check if slower routes with cheaper tickets are available.", click on that and there is usually much cheaper tickets available
