Rough Copy dropped from record label

Quote:

For some acts (such as One Direction *SCREAM*) the X Factor means major success and big bucks but for others (*COUGH* Steve Brookstein *COUGH*) it means not passing go and heading straight to the local dumpster.

And it seems that’s how boyband Rough Copy’s television talent show journey ended as they’ve been dropped from their record label after their debut single, a cover of Anita Baker’s 1986 hit Sweet Love, failed to make it into the top 100 of the charts. Ouch!

A music industry insider told The Sun on Sunday: “Epic were clearly unhappy with how the single had performed. It was expected to chart in the Top 10 considering the platform they had been given through the X Factor.

“Both sides are insisting it was an amicable and mutual split.”

Aww, guys! Keeeeep singing! Oh, wait, isn’t that another popular talent series?

I bought one of their CDs once and it had scratches all over it and it was covered in finger prints and dirty.

The shop keep said it must have been a rough copy.

[sad trombone]

Not shocked. With a lead single like that, it was obvious Epic had little faith in them.

Vanessa 19-10-2014 08:20 PM

Why have a cover as a debut single? Something original would do better. :suspect:

well rough copy was cocky enough they will get a number 1 and be huge so most likely the answer is yes

They need better songs and production and maybe a 4th member who looks like a poor man's Harry Styles (step forward George Union J, Brad Vamps, 2 from 5Secs of Summer, and now Overload Generation).

Mystic Mock 20-10-2014 08:40 PM

They was lucky to get as far as they did in their own series, they was far from good enough to chart in the Music Industry.

Loukas 20-10-2014 08:44 PM

no recollection of them at all

A cover is not going to do well as a debut single. It's lazy. You need a strong original song and even then it's not guaranteed it will sell.

This is bad news :( we haven't had an all black R&B male group in a very long time, they could of at least had a better promotion plan/team

They need a strong, original song and then i'm sure they would do well.
