I wonder how many people on here know what a massive contribution he made to music generally and how influential he was. RIP.

Very True Livia

He died of Liver failure after years of drug abuse (Heroin) and had a liver transplant so I would imagine 71, although young was pretty good in the circumstances. I would imagine if not so rich he would have died a while back?

He was a Glaswegian

A very moving eulogy there, LT.

:douf:

I do believe that when someone famous dies early due to the abuse of alcohol or drugs that it should be equally as mentioned as their achievements however.

I'd prefer to remember his contribution rather than dwell on his weaknesses as I think it's more important. We all have our weaknesses.

Yes but it is a lesson to the young that you cannot burn candles at both ends and expect not to ruin your troosers

I would imagine that he could barely recall the 70s and 80s

I suggest young rock stars are doing the same now as they did then. Young people are not well-known for learning the lessons of those who've gone before them.
