Ben: X Factor rigged for Leona

Quote:

X FACTOR hopeful Ben Mills has threatened to quit — because he fears the final is “fixed” for Leona Lewis to win.

He is furious the song chosen for the winner’s debut single — Kelly Clarkson’s A Moment Like This — is more suited to a female vocal.

A source said: “He’s really angry about the song.

“He doesn’t want to record it and has been saying he will walk out of the show before the final if he thinks anything else is being swung in Leona’s favour.

“All the remaining contestants are meant to be recording the song this week so that it can be pressed and ready for release once the winner is announced.

“But Ben thinks Leona now has an unfair advantage and is convinced he’s being carved out by Simon Cowell.” Ben, 26, from Kent, is mentored by judge Sharon Osbourne.

He has won over voters with his gravelly voice.

But The Sun revealed that even show bosses believe stunner Leona — one of Simon’s two remaining acts — will win the final on December 16. The 21-year-old was accused of “tricking” her way on to X Factor after it was revealed she had released a solo album.

She spent three years trying to break into the charts with the help of a vocal coach and went to a top performing arts school.

The source added: “Many people on X Factor feel she has an unfair advantage over the others.” But her dreams may yet be dashed — by TONSILLITIS.

She has had the throat condition all week and doctors have told her to rest her voice — or risk losing it for tomorrow’s crucial live programme when all five acts have to sing TWO songs each. An insider said: “It’s not looking great — she has not been allowed to practice all week and is not in the best of moods.

“She has been to see a top Harley Street doctor who has given her some medication, but Saturday is looking touch and go.

“Leona’s known for her big singing voice so she’s worried she might not be able to hit the notes now.”

Leona’s illness is the latest in a string of ailments to hit contestants. Her rivals Ben and Eton Road’s Anthony Hannah recently had flu.

Meanwhile, the acts have been practising movie-themed songs for this week’s show.

They will all get a last-minute coaching session with this week’s celebrity mentors — Simon’s classical singers Il Divo.

The source added: “Leona doesn’t want to miss it so she’s pretty much staying silent until then.”

He has got a point though that song is perfect for Leona, ain't really Ben's style of music.

Legend 24-11-2006 02:06 PM

Oh be quiet Ben. Does he expect a rock song to be released as it? Every series the song has been a nice, slow song and nothing 'rocky' so it's obviously not rigged for Leona. Me thinks Ben is realising that he isn't going to win afterall and wants to use excuses already.

And Jay, with all due respect; you'd stick up for Ben if he said the sky was green. I mean the last 2 series have both been that type of song. Ben is bitter.

Leona to win. :dance2:

Erm no i don't if i think he's in the wrong or he sings bad i will say, im not going to say oh no Ben your talking rubbish when i do agree with him.

Ben to win :dance2:

Dan_ 24-11-2006 02:12 PM

It does give her a bit of an advantage though, she's bound to sing that well. They'll have to change it quite a bit to adapt it for Ben,he can do slow songs anyway..

It does seem though it was pretty much hand picked for Leona though.

Psylocke 24-11-2006 02:17 PM

Sour Grapes starting from ben already.

he could atleast wait until after the show is finished

MarkWaldorf 24-11-2006 02:27 PM

OMG!!!!!!!
I dont care about the Ben thing because its just stupid, last year when Brenda was only the only female left she had to record thats my goal, she didn't moan seeing as thats more of a male's song. Load a crap tbh.

And I hate the way they have made Leona having Tonsilittus like its her exit. The newspaper always makes it worse then it is, she'll do fine, each week an act is ill, yet they pull it off fine.

Chrizzle 24-11-2006 03:43 PM

Ben Ben Ben??!!
What did he have to say a thing like that for?

I was starting to like him.
I doubt he said that. Im sure he said something like 'Leona will do good at that' and the press changed it.
Ben and leona are meant to be friends.

Im not believing The Sun until Ben says it live tomorrow!

amuseme 24-11-2006 07:10 PM

Well I agree with him if hes said that, the whole show is soooo unbelievably biased towards her!

Last years winners single was mostly needed for a males vocals, yet they all recorded them with Brenda there, and she was favourite to win. She didn't complain, and Im sure each of them will make it their own anyway.

This year has been beyond biased it is ridiculous. Even if Leonna didnt win she'd get a record deal, shes already recording a single with Ludacris apparantely. I just think its so unfair this year, and especially since she hasnt even got a personality, all she has is a good voice and to me that isnt the X factor

Bells 24-11-2006 08:59 PM

I doubt Ben would quit, for me personally it doesn't seem like something he'd do. At all.

Yeah because when your listening to someone's CD, your thinking 'ohh i bet he/she would be great for a night out, wow i love the personality' i mean come on? Does Ben have much of a personality? If personality is the case then surely Brenda should have won last year? She had both; talent & personality.

And icey, the 'nice guy' act could well be an 'act' for the camera's for all we know.

I didnt mean personality wise in that sense, I meant in the sense that someone has their own identity and isnt a copy of other people

I think instead of quitting, he should be kicked off for giving the show bad press..

Yeah, valid point. However, she is an amazing singer and is really talented so i'd like to see her win. :dance2:

It's a bit like the first Pop Idol when Will Young was given a Westlife number because Simon Cowell wanted Gareth Gates to win.

Could be, but it's not so much the nice guy act, it’s just I really don’t think he’s the sort of person who’d give it all up like that.

GlitterEyes 25-11-2006 02:43 PM

I think everyone but Leonna is in the same boat, as the only girl it shall be best suited for her sound and the male versions will sound different. Having any kind of cover sucks because you will always compare it to whoever has sung it before. If it was a brand new song then it would be much more fair.

Dan_ 25-11-2006 04:19 PM

Pretty funny they pick the winners song from American Idol 1 though.

andybigbro 25-11-2006 04:20 PM
