My cat...

... I took him to the vet a few hours ago. He was fine one minute, then suddenly he was vomiting and struggling to breathe. He was unsteady on his feet and making weird noises. He's breathing through his mouth with his tongue sticking out and his heart is racing.

The vet has put him in an oxygen tent and is going to x-ray him once he stabilises a little bit. He told us to go home and wait for his call...

I'm so worried. :(

Kizzy 27-12-2014 03:12 PM

Fingers crossed for him lily :(

Ninastar 27-12-2014 03:13 PM

oh no lily...

im so sorry to hear that. how old is your cat? at least he's at the vets now... maybe he just ate something bad. he's in safest hands right now though.

my thoughts are with you

LemonJam 27-12-2014 03:17 PM

L :( has he had problems like this before? like nina said he's in the best care right now.

Crimson Dynamo 27-12-2014 03:20 PM

Was it something he ate I wonder. Vet should get to the bottom of it.

:fc:

lily. 27-12-2014 03:20 PM

He's 9.

I thought he had ingested something poisonous.. like antifreeze or something... we live in a village, and he rakes and roams all over the place, so it is possible he could get to something like that.. even if the person didn't put it down on purpose..

But, the vet seems to think it might be fluid in his lungs... he says it can be a number of things and would rather wait til he can do the tests to find out. He's never been sick before at all.. so this is all new for him.

My vet was just closing the clinic for the day and he was supposed to take a family member to the airport when I called in, and he got someone else to do it so that he could treat my cat... I know he is in good hands.. he's a good vet, and he does really care about his four-legged clients..

I just wish I knew what was happening... it's so hard to sit and wait for the phone to ring..

Thanks for the kind thoughts though Kizzy, Caitlin, James & LT.. x

T* 27-12-2014 03:45 PM

Best wishes and I hope everything will be okay

Suze 27-12-2014 05:33 PM

Only just seen this. Oh Lily, I really hope your cat is going to be ok

AnnieK 27-12-2014 05:43 PM

Aw lily....I hope he's ok. You don't have any Lillies it he house do you. My vet told me they are really dangerous to cats after one of mine got sick once. Did you check his gums? It also sounds like shock....could he have been clipped by a car?

Keep us posted though...x

they always check the cats nails to see if there had been a car impact

Bad news. Not long after I posted this thread, my vet rang... he had been working on him for 4 hours straight.. and tried everything. There was fluid in his lungs and every time he drained it out, it built up straight away.. he said it was most likely heart failure. He has seen it a lot in older cats, and sometimes in younger ones, but he says there's really no road back from it. He said that he hadn't left his side in all the time he was there, and there had been absolutely no improvement, so the kindest thing was to put him to sleep.

I can go in tomorrow morning to say goodbye. He was already anaesthetised when the vet rang, so he wanted to just put him to sleep without waking him so as not to cause him any more pain. Needless to say I've been crying ever since. Anyone with pets will understand.

Thanks all for your kind thoughts. x

oh no. i am so sorry to hear that. only 9 years aswell.

if you need someone to talk to, im here... you were brilliant with me 7 months ago when we lost our puss, and I'd love to help you too. but the first few days are the worst. its the worst heartache imaginable, but it does get better after a few days.

the only thing you need right now is time...

so sorry this has happened to you, worst time of year for this to happen too.

Crimson Dynamo 27-12-2014 07:05 PM

Horrible news and no words will help, just time. I lost a dog in similar circumstances 3 years ago and it still hurts.

9 great years you gave a life to with love . That is very important.

xx

Kizzy 27-12-2014 07:07 PM

So sorry to hear that lily, I'm glad you'll have a chance to say goodbye :(

Josy 27-12-2014 07:09 PM

Terrible news, hope your ok Lily and it's not much consolation right now but at least you know he isn't suffering any more.

AnnieK 27-12-2014 07:10 PM

Aw lily....I'm so sorry to hear that. It's so crap...

T* 27-12-2014 07:10 PM

lily. 27-12-2014 08:06 PM

Thanks everyone. Your thoughts are much appreciated. In 20 years of having my own place, I've never been without a cat.. this is the first time. It's so weird.

Ninastar 27-12-2014 08:07 PM

Creggle 27-12-2014 08:11 PM
