Will or Darius?

It used to be the battle between Will and Gareth but now it seems the board is split between the man with nine lives and the Pop Idol himself!

Will or Darius? Who do you prefer? And Im not taking any 'I like both' - you obviously like one more, even just a little bit!:spin::colour:

LEE 14-02-2003 08:03 PM

I do like Will, but I have always preferred Darius.

Sorry Janette and Kaz

James 14-02-2003 08:03 PM

Darius because he was ridiculed after appearing on Popstars and he did well to turn round public opinion.

And I'm also biased towards my fellow Caledonians, of course.:spin2::hugesmile:

LEE 14-02-2003 08:11 PM

Good choice James.

The 'Dive In' album is absolutely brilliant. Darius wrote every single song on it and there isn't one I don't like.

Go Darius!!!

WILDCHILD 14-02-2003 08:12 PM

Seeing as Will is losing I will add my opinion!!!

Its soooo WILL for me!!:love::colour::love::colour:

Mairi 14-02-2003 08:48 PM

errrr, Gareth!!

LEE 14-02-2003 08:54 PM

Don't worry Miriam, you'll get over it someday

steve_o 14-02-2003 09:20 PM

I haven't a clue about any of them, who are they?:laugh::joker:Now Britneys nice.

Janette 14-02-2003 09:39 PM

As much as I admire Darius for keeping going while everyone around him knocked him, I have to go for Will.

I've been to see Will twice and his stage presence is incredible, he puts on a fantastic show and I can't wait to see him again.

Darius is great on TV and his records have been superb so far but I'll let you know in May how good he is live!

Romantic Old Bird 15-02-2003 06:36 AM

Now I like Will, think he is a sterling chap, and know he would be the same in person as he is on screen.

However, I have to say that Darius wins it for me. He is extremely talented, has real guts and a maturity beyond his years.

His album kocks spots off Will's, and it is all self penned.

Oh, and he is absolutely gorgeous!!

There is room for both of them, they are different.

Now Miriam, as for Gareth, what the hell was all that about on TOTP last night??? All in a good cause though :spin2:

LEE 15-02-2003 06:52 AM

I couldn't agree more ROB.

Darius's new single 'Incredible' (released 3rd March) is one of my fave tracks from the album, it's absolutely stonking.

The pic on the sleeve isn't bad either.

peachy 15-02-2003 04:18 PM

Now I know I can't say both as that is a total copout BUT I think Will is fabulous to watch, has great stage presence and a really good voice. I think his voice is probably more distinctive than Darius BUT and it is a big but, Darius' album is much better than Will's. It really is and all self-penned tracks (even if some were co-written by the same duo who co-wrote Sinead's single) makes him more of an interesting artist at this stage than Will. I blame Will's mangement for going for the easy buck with Will's album. I also admire Darius's sticking power and determination, and finally Darius is absolutely stonking to look at! So Darius wins by a short head.

Janette 15-02-2003 05:50 PM

Darius was an accomplished songwriter when we first saw him on Popstars, his ability to write is not in question.

Will is not known to be a songwriter and he managed to co-write five of the songs on his album. Don't forget that four of the songs on the album were there by popular demand due to the Pop Idol shows, so Will can be excused them surely!

Will is learning his trade and he's making a very good job of it.

Let's not forget, writing songs is not the 'be all and end all' of becoming a star - how many songs did Elvis write?

The true test of a star is someone who can appear on any stage - be it a huge concert or a television studio - and sing LIVE!! The only person who has done that, as I'm sure you all know, is .....

My answer to your question, Wildchild - if you haven't guessed yet - is

:dazzler:  :dazzler: WILL! :dazzler:  :dazzler:

LEE 15-02-2003 08:05 PM

As I have already said on the other thread I do NOT think Darius was miming tonight. It certainly didn't look like it to me. The version of Incredible on Ant and Dec tonight sounded completely different to the single/album and in my opinion was NOT mimed.

LEE 16-02-2003 08:23 AM

Ok, I have been doing some looking around and talking to some friends and it appears that you were right Kaz and that Darius did in fact mime on Ant and Dec’s show last night.

I really hadn’t noticed that he was, obviously looking elsewhere other than his lips.

For what it’s worth here is my two pennyworth about miming.

Just because an artist mimes occasionally when performing doesn’t mean that they cannot sing live. There are many other reasons often out of the artists control as to why this happens, sometimes technical issues at the studio concerned and sometimes management decisions.

Record companies often ban their artists from singing live, especially before a new single is released. It isn’t that the artist can’t perform, it’s purely a marketing decision so that the potential record buying public hear what the released version is going to be like. For example, Pete Waterman was asked a while ago why some of his artists, including Kylie, often mimed when performing on TV and his reply was that he never allowed them to sing live as he wanted the audience to hear the CD versions to give them more exposure.

Apparently Mercury took this stance with both Colourblind and Rushes as well, but in both cases, after the singles were released Darius has usually performed them live. Incredible is released on 3rd March.

Not all TV Shows are geared up for live performances and sometimes they are just not practical. It is a lot easier for the producers to get an artist in to mime to his/her single release and the speed that many of these shows are put together, often with artists arriving at the last minute and then dashing off to other commitments mean that it is just not possible.

Darius had been over in Europe all of this week and actually only flew back into the country yesterday a short time before this ‘Live’ show went out on air, it is quite possible that there wasn’t adequate time for proper rehersals and that this added to the decision to lip synch.

There are some times when miming is completely out of the question, I remember Janette commenting a little while ago that she was sure that Gareth had mimed one of the songs he performed on the ‘Gareth and Will’ tour and I can’t think of any reasons why this would ever be acceptable.

There are some artists who NEVER sing live when performing on TV – Westlife for example (and before any Westlife fans have a go, it is a HUGE Westlife fan who told me that  ) – and I am NOT defending this. Artists should be strong enough do do live performances, but they should not necessarily be castigated if they do mime occasionally. Darius has proved on many occasions, every Saturday night about a year ago for example, that he is more than capable of singing live and I’m sure that we will hear a live performance of Incredible soon on TOTP’s and/or CD:uk where he HAS consistently sung live in the past.

peachy 16-02-2003 08:27 AM

This caused an argument in our house, I said Darius wasn't miming, while my OH said he was.

I didn't think it was a good enough performance for it to be mimed to be honest, (sorry Lee) but it was a bit ropey. There seemed to be a problem with the sound or something.

LEE 16-02-2003 08:36 AM

I actually agree with you peachy and it was one of the reasons that I hadn't thought he was miming. The sound quality sounded completely different to that on the album and video. It was a completely different version altogether.

I am now sure that he did mime though, I have watched it back and there are times when his lips aren't quite in synch. Also I've been talking it over with several of my Darius fan friends on MSN and the general concensus is that it was definitely mimed, however we are a bit confused as it is a different version to that on the CD with some of the words slightly altered as well, and this would usually indicate a live performance. :conf:

Janette 16-02-2003 10:03 AM

Well, we have a winner!

I HAVE NEVER SEEN WILL MIME!

LEE 16-02-2003 10:08 AM

You have completely missed the point of my post though Janette.

Maybe Will has never mimed and good on him for doing this, I'm just saying that I don't think it is a big deal if artists do mime occasionally providing they don't do it all the time and have proved that they can perform live very well. Also they don't always have any choice in the matter anyway. :spin2:

Janette 16-02-2003 10:13 AM

No I haven't, I'm just being a pain for the fun of it
