Amber be prepared warning for wind Central Scotland

Just bumping this from my Weather Centre as it will be a news event tomorrow

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/d...3a/ta/2015-1-9

A vigorous depression is expected to run rapidly east passing northern Scotland on Thursday night and Friday morning. Winds will begin to increase late on Thursday to give a period of very strong westerly winds through the Forth-Clyde valley, with gusts 60-70 mph quite widely, and isolated gusts to 80 mph. Winds should quickly ease from the west during the morning.

The public should be prepared for the potential for disruption to transport, and are advised to check latest forecasts before travelling. Power supplies may also be affected and there is the possibility of structural damage.

It will shut all bridges and may shut the airports so travel will be affected

I hope they shut the schools as they did with Hurricane Bawbag and the Forth Road Bridge is shut; that way none of us have to go to school or work and we can all be safe at home!

There is even a slight tornado risk but it will be nocturnal and hard to spot as the straight line speeds will be so strong!

Christ! Roll on summer! I'd honestly rather have 2 feet of snow than high winds and rain!

Crimson Dynamo 08-01-2015 07:50 PM

Winds picking up now out West. 70mph gust in Western Ireland. low 50s in Western Isles

Crimson Dynamo 08-01-2015 10:16 PM

****ing hell! It's mental out there!!

Ammi 09-01-2015 07:10 AM

..I hope LT, Josy, Lee, Z, Andy and all you Scottish members are ok and have your power still on today...

Lee. 09-01-2015 09:04 AM

It's calmed down a lot now Ammi, but it's expected to return later on today.. I have to say I was actually scared last night! None of us had any sleep so I've kept the kids off school and we're going to have a pyjama day :)

Kizzy 09-01-2015 10:38 AM

Wow it sounds crazy Lee, get snuggled down and keep warm till it blows over.

Lee. 09-01-2015 10:43 AM

It was crazy kizzy.. 90mph winds, thunder and lightning, horizontal rain, hail, sleet and snow! :bored: I'm glad I don't have to go anywhere today!

Crimson Dynamo 09-01-2015 12:44 PM

:fist: 2 slates down, goalposts and ball blown into river, wheelie bin blown down drive, hardly a wink of sleep, powercut and dead router so no broadband in house, went to an auction (70 mile round trip ) that was cancelled (could not check it was on coz no pc), had to drag an old pc out to the office in garden and fire that up to get fecking connected..and its freezing and tomorrow there is to be tons of snow

what a bust

Crimson Dynamo 09-01-2015 12:46 PM

112mph recorded at Stornoway, a record for there and its a sea level site too. 90 mph in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Lee. 09-01-2015 12:51 PM

It's stirring up here a bit again!

Josy 09-01-2015 12:53 PM

I've been ill that's why it's took me so long to post in here but our power went out twice last night, the wind was terrifying and I actually thought the windows were going to smash.

More warnings are out for later plus I think there's snow to come too over the weekend.

Lee. 09-01-2015 12:55 PM

Hello josy :) the windows coming in was what was worrying me too.. I actually considered going to bed fully clothed so if need be I could grab the kids and make a run for it!

 Quite right Lee at least you would have been ready to bolt out the door.

It was really scary though and I'm wondering what later will bring with the winds getting back up again.

Hopefully it won't be quite as bad.. I think it's going to be pretty wild again though!

Cherie 09-01-2015 01:26 PM

It must have been bad! LT not overstating the wind problem on this occasion!
