They pulled the plug on the amateur dance contest after How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? scored higher ratings.

Beeb chiefs now want host Graham Norton, 43, to concentrate on musical talent shows.

And they are set to reveal plans for a follow-up to Maria — also hosted by Norton — expected to be a hunt for a lead for productions Joseph or Grease.

An insider said: “Dance Fever was great but Maria proved audiences have a real passion for those types of shows.”

Dance Fever was a centrepiece of Saturday night but had only about four million viewers. Maria got more than five million.

Meanwhile, Graham is set to host his new BBC2 chatshow from February. The half-hour programme will air on Thursdays.

I never really watched it, so obviously I'm not bothered. Must be why they axed it, the ratings just weren't high enough.

I am guttered about that, it was one of my favourite reality shows, my favourite talent show. 10x better than SCD, i was REALLY looking forward to the new series, Maria is a load of $hite. I hope the new show flops.

I wasn't mad about this show but it was ok. Not bothered that its been axed to be honest. I didnt watch any of Maria and dont plan too either:laugh:
