Bollywood actress signs for Celebrity Big Brother

India FM are reporting that top Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has signed with Endemol to appear in this year’s Celebrity Big Brother.

Shilpa has been nominated three times for “Best Actress” at the Filmfare awards and is a big name in Bollywood.

They claim that the actress has auditioned for the show and had a meeting with producers, who were keen to sign her after finding out about her work on the internet.

It reports that the Endemol team were searching for an Indian celebrity, who had “good looks and an equally good sense of humour”.

Both Shilpa and her mother refused to be drawn when questioned about the deal.

If true, Shilpa will become the first Indian celebrity to enter the Big Brother house.

Not even heard of her before. Looks a very pretty lady though. Anyone know her age?

Tanser_Man 22-12-2006 11:42 PM

Why?!

Bollywood isn't a celebrity world we can relate too, a crap inclusion in my eyes if it happens. If they want an Indian to go on why not go with Meera Syal, the bird off Goodness Gracious Me, at least we know who the hell it is then!

Chrizzle 22-12-2006 11:46 PM

I agree with Tanser.
I think this is a stupid idea.

I'm all for complete nobodies going in- its fun to get to know them, but this is like picking someone random off the street. Shes not a english celebrity, or one someone in England has probably heard of.
At least people like Dennis and Traci were head of!

Bollywood films are quite popular in the UK Asian community.

But not so too the vast majority of the nation!

Sure a few people will know them but does that warrant them a place over established celebs who the vast majority of the nation knows.

We should stick to B list... not E list celebs.

the biggest market for bollywood films outside its home nation (india) is the UK. not a few, but shilpa is a recognised name with thousands of asians around the country (and millions around the world). bet u didnt know but bollywood films around the world on average are more watched than hollywood films. and why is the nationality thing kicking in now? dennis rodman and traci bigham are american, not british. ok, theyre popular but u cannot say shilpa is not popular cuz she certainly is. i myself am british but dont recognise half the celebs that come in that house every year. that doesnt make em Z-list stars. every celeb has a market, be that an auther, chef, actor, singer, presenter, journalist or a bollywood star.

i think its an excellent idea to pull in the asian audences for this show. well done BB bosses.

and if u still think shes not famous then checkout her filmography:

I’m with you there krazy1.

I reckon it’ll raise peoples’ awareness as well if she goes into the house, plus, she isn’t a Z-list celeb at all; just because not everyone in the UK knows her doesn’t lower her celebrity status abroad. I think it’d be a good thing if she went into CBB, especially when people don’t know a lot of the celebs anyway – as I said before, it’s all about raising awareness and this is a good step forward!

Glittereyes, she’s about 31ish – that’s what it says on her IMDB page anyway, but it’s not always 100% reliable.

Shilpa 26-12-2006 07:07 PM

Im so excited that Shilpas gonna be on Big brother!!

Im a british asian and shes always been one of my fav bollywood celebs!

She might be famous to you but the normal joe bloggs would be none the wiser.

Your right in the sense that it would bring in a wider audience i suppose.

I dunno, i'm half and half now, i'm still thinking we could have a better celebrity in the house but im also willing to see what shes about.

well shes is the only hm on the forum that every1 is gettin excited about before even entering the house now that is sayin somthing

charming 02-01-2007 04:36 PM

^ Yep she has the X-Factor :colour:

missbling 02-01-2007 04:42 PM

lol yeah she does

GlitterEyes 02-01-2007 04:47 PM

I didn't know much about her to be honest but after looking at some websites I have learnt alot more about her. She is reported to be earning alot to appear. So she must be worth it. From what I have read she is a home bird on one website so she shall miss home alot just hope that doesn't effect her to much.

Though the actress has been forbidden from talking about it, it's most reliably learnt that Shilpa has been paid the equivalent of a whopping Rs 3 crores to be the only Bollywood participant on the show.

Now I am no expert on "crores" but 1 crores alot never mind 3 of them. Isn't 1 crores = 10 million? Which is silly to be paying for one person for 25 days!

charming 02-01-2007 04:50 PM

^ she deserves every penny, she'll go crazy after she comes out the house, so its early compensation :bouncy:

GlitterEyes, did you go on www.shilpa-shetty.com

She comes from a small family of mum, dad and 1 sister. And yeah my friend told me shes a home birdy too

GlitterEyes 02-01-2007 04:52 PM

Nope was mainly reading bollywood news pages but will take a peek at that site now:thumbs:

GlitterEyes 02-01-2007 04:54 PM

I shall be interested seeing her dress up in some funny costumes...all her pictures make her look stunning so it shall be great seeing how she copes in the house dressing in weird clothing and outfits...lol. No doubt she will look amazing whatever she is in:shocked:
