Saying goodbye to a dog

I had to say goodbye to my best friend :(

My dad had 2 west island terriors (chulky and milo) and i've known them for like 16/17 years now milo died a couple of weeks ago and because chulky is old and he isn't eating or drinking and seems to be in pain me and my dad had to make a decision and it was really hard so i had to say goodbye before i went back to birmingham. Has anyone had to do this?

Feel really upset about it

I'm sorry to hear that Luke, bonds with pets are always some of the hardest to lose because of how unconditional they are, I know I'll be in bits when my cat goes.

I said bye to mine and it was so hard, I just cried for hours :(

Hope you're ok

Glenn. 16-02-2015 07:59 PM

It's the worst feeling ever. Hope you're ok

Really sad to hear all that Luke, it is the day I really dread coming for my Dog.

We have lost Dogs before in the family and that was really awful it was the same as losing one of the family.

This Dog now is solely mine and I adore him.
Thinking of you Luke.

Our family dog died when I was about 7 and I always thought it was because of me, I used to ride him around like a horse. :worry: it wasn't though obviously.

Hope you are okay man

Aw Luke, know just how that feels,I have a very poorly Cavalier at the moment,I know the day is coming I just don't want it to .but ,your dads have had a long and loving life by the sounds of it,all you can do is treat them well, cuddle and love them and remember the happy memories you have of them,it is really sad,but shows you have a good heart.:bawling::hug:

I'm so sorry Luke. Dogs are such loyal friends and very much part of our family. Losing that special friend is like losing a family member.

Hugs and remember Luke, its okay to cry.

It awful I lost one last march zak aged 13 and 3 months even though ive got 7 other dogs, I miss him loads. Ive got one now nearly 10 and I just know shes not going to be with us much longer either.

LukeB 16-02-2015 08:55 PM

Thank you
it's going to be so hard going to wales next time and not seeing him there as it was weird not seeing Milo. Dad got a new dog the other month and he is really playful but it won't be the same

Aww Luke I'm sorry :(

We had to get our 19 year old cat put down last year and it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I still tear up when I think about my last few seconds I got to spend with him. My dad came over (parents are divorced) and he was even crying, then my mum was crying as she put him in his pink cage. She lifted him up to both my sister and I for one last hug and thats when we both broke down into sobs. It was so hard. And I'm crying just writing this... but it does get better. I got over his death within a few days but when I'm reminded of him, I still tear up now.

I still cant watch the Lion King... he was called Mufasa, so I don't know if I'll ever be able to watch again.

I always think of the times i went walkies with them, played swing ball and even watch big brother with them. Chulky loves to watch tv so he can bark at animals that come on tv. It's so upsetting though thinking about memories because it's still hasn't sunk in. He was fine when i arrived in wales but as the days went by he kept getting iller and iller.

Has it happened yet? Saying goodbye is the hardest bit, but once it happens and hes at rest, you do feel a little bit better.

I'm sorry to hear about this LukeB.

Thankfully (and hopefully it continues) my Cat has been in good condition for nearly 12 years.

I'm genuinely sorry for you Luke, as a pet lover I have been through this a few times. One thing I will say to you though; those memories which are so upsetting now, will eventually become pleasurable. Over time, you will think of your lost pet and the things he used to do, and the memory will warm you and bring a smile, not cause you sadness.

No one we really loved has really 'gone' anyway while ever we carry them in our hearts and minds - animal or human - that's important to remember. He affected your life for the better, enriched it, and you gave him all the love and care possible, and you should console yourself with that as much as you can.

Here's hoping you come to terms with this quickly Luke.

jennyjuniper 17-02-2015 06:10 AM

Dear Luke,so sorry about your dogs. They really are part of the family. I lost my dog Smoky years ago and I still miss him. Console yourself with the thought that both your dogs were very well loved and were happy. My heart breaks a little every time I see those ads for the RSPCA and other dog charities.

 It's always hard to say goodbye to your pet. I was devastated when our dog died.
