I never go to church. I do not like sects

GlitterEyes 26-12-2006 01:01 AM

Nope

Sticks 26-12-2006 05:14 AM

I attend worship services on Sunday in compliance with Acts 20:7. There is no scriptural injunction to celebrate Jesus birth or authorisation to. Therefore our church grouping do not have services on Christmas day, unless of course Christmas day falls on a Sunday, and then we are attending, not because it is Christmas, but because it is the Lord's day.

Siouxsie 26-12-2006 09:02 AM

Good for you sticks at least someone belives in what christmas day is all about.

I used to live next to one when I was very young and churches scare me.... I know that might seem strange to some people but its just the memories I have of wandering through the graveyard and looking into a tomb that was open and seeing a skeleton lying there... for a 3 year old it was pretty scary.

Ever since then I have avoided going to church, I just feel uncomfortable when I'm there

Sticks 26-12-2006 07:27 PM

There are some groups, like ours, that do not have a church building, and use community centres.

For the record I live opposite a disused graveyard and on one of my websites I have a movie of it.

stacey 26-12-2006 07:30 PM

nope im not religious i never go to church at christmas or not it bores me

Sticks 26-12-2006 07:30 PM

BTW I do have to point out that some groups with in our network do own their own building, but they do not have grave yards.

Is it the graveyard that scares you rather than the building [/Freud Mode]:pat:

~Kizwiz~ 26-12-2006 08:07 PM

I guess that the two are connected in my mind. Churches/graveyards seem to give me the same fear. But its not just about the building or surrounding areas... its the association within my mind that brings fear. I get it when I'm around vicars too...... maybe there is something that blocked in my mind that i dont know about :puzzled

sol 26-12-2006 08:33 PM

I went to a school between Years 7 and 11 where you had to go to Chapel every morning before lessons on 5 out of 6 mornings per week, it's out of 6 because we used to have Saturday school too.
At Christmas we went down to the Church for a service as well, same with the end of the school year.
There's no religious influence whatsoever in the school I go to now though.

Perhaps the trauma of seeing a skeleton in a graveyard coupled with seeing the film Jason and the Argonauts. (Remember the fighting skeletons at the end?)

Lauren 27-12-2006 04:08 PM

I'm not a religious person at all. I don't go to church usually and so I should not be hypocritical by attending a church which I don't usually attend.

I did however, attend the carol service a few days before xmas but thats just cos my friends are in the choir and I was their moral support
