Discovered Recipies

I wondered how many of us have discovered new recipies by experiment or accident. IE not by reading a new recipie book but by doing it.

This is one I have been working on.

2 leeks sliced, 2 carrots peeled and sliced. Add in a vegetable stock cube, a small bit of chilli powder (Make sure you do not add too much), sufficient water

Bring to boil an simmer for a while on the stove

You get a nice spicy Leek and Carrot Soup

It was stumbled upon while making an improvised meat stew. It seems to work, so long as you do not overpower it with the chilli.

I like preparing meals that have the word 'microwaveable' somewhere on the packet.

You sound like a man after my own heart, James.

If it doesn't go in the microwave, or on a tray in the oven - gas mark 7 for 25 mins, I'm not interested!

Has it come to this when my 1000th post is to lament the passing of old skills like cooking.

Nothing beats a home cooked stew. Those conveinience meals are so much of a muchness.

Does anyone have a good recipie idea that they discoved by accident ? (Like the Wocestershire sauce advert) :conf:
