Mid-week dilemma...

...you have discovered that a biochemist has created a very cheap chemical compound that, when ingested, will react with the levels of hormones in the human brain. Ingesting this compound would essentially eliminate any desire for conflict, and also increase the levels of compassion amongst the population. If ingested by the entire population of the world, it would in effect, instantly create world peace and eliminate most criminal activity. It would also make the population much more compassionate, and therefore also eliminate hunger and poverty. It would also however, remove any desire whatsoever for anything involving conflict or competition (athletic activities, competition etc and would effectively make a docile 'Stepford' population)....

... would you...

a) Introduce this compound into the world's water supplies, and guarantee world peace and an end to most human strife, knowing that the population would never willingly ingest it
or...
b) Do nothing. Free will is what makes us human, and removing that would be worse than anything we can do to ourselves without the compound....

..?..

I choose b)

Any type of chemical castration, of the mind, of the senses, of sexuality... is wrong.
The side effects to not having human competition could be just as devastating as war. It is, after all, what has caused mankind to struggle for survival to this point.

Sounds like it would be great to treat violent criminals. But I don't think it'd be good to give to everyone. So I guess I would pick b.

I would hoard it. Patent it and then sell it to goverments to give to prisoners. Once i had amassed a vast fortune i would buy nuclear war heads and wipe out most of africa. From my continental base i would then put the drug into the water supplies of russia, china and usa and then take over the world.

Then i would infract and ban the Tibb mods and admin and turn tibb into a weather forum

This is probably the most brilliantly thought out, most ingenious plan to solve all the world's problems which I have ever read.

Pure genius.

If I have one minute criticism though, it is that you appear to have overlooked enslaving those humans who have Ginger hair and putting them to work in Knotty Ash's infamous Jam Butty mines.:hehe:

Yeah, sounds like something that could be useful in treating the most scary of maniacs.

But on the whole, changing everyone's thoughts/desires artificially is a little too far.

A.

in response to this quote:

If you think about it our mind is influenced by conflict anyway due to the nature of ourselves which arguably can infringe our free will. So this chemical would do the same but in a way that results in less death. Seems logical, right?
