David Lynch leaves Twin Peaks revival

The planned revival of cult classic TV series Twin Peaks may not be coming to Showtime next year after all.

Welcome to Twin Peaks and a number of other sources are reporting that buzz out of WonderCon is that the network has pulled the plug.

No reason has yet been given and neither the producers nor Showtime have commented yet, but Welcome to Twin Peaks is citing cast members, saying, "I've got bad news. No official word yet, but it looks like the Twin Peaks on Showtime deal is dead."

Back in mid-March, co-creator David Lynch said that they were still working out a deal with Showtime and production had not started yet. Lynch has reportedly turned in all of the scripts already and was expected to direct a nine-episode miniseries set in the world of the eccentric logging town he introduced to television 25 years ago.

Showtime responded quickly, saying that the show was still on, but seemingly soft-pedaling Lynch's personal involvement. Some wondered whether the cast, notoriously faithful to Lynch, would move forward in a revival without his direct involvement or at least consent.

If true, it isn't clear what impact Showtime abandoning the series would have on the planned book from co-creator Mark Frost set in the time between Season Two and Season Three, which was planned for later this year.

Apparently it's not axed, but David Lynch is no longer attatched to the project.

oh no :(

I can't really comment on what the implications for the series this news is, because I haven't watched it, but I definitely need to get around to it.

He had written every episode of the upcoming season, hadn't he? So I suppose they'll have to start everything from scratch in that regard, which might delay it.

That's what may have led to him leaving. Showtime requesting changes/rewrites which he didn't agree with.

It shouldn't go ahead if David Lynch isn't involved.

I think the scripts are there, wont be the same without him directing though. Wish it was axed, then Netflix could take over.

A few months ago, David Lynch pulled out of Showtime's "Twin Peaks" reboot following a dispute with the network over money. Shortly thereafter, the show's cast members put out a video calling for Lynch's return. Apparently he heard them; tonight, Lynch announced his return to the project via posts on Twitter, and later, Facebook. "The rumors are not what they seem ..... It is !!! Happening again," Lynch wrote. The show is currently in pre-production, according to Indiewire.

As Indiewire reports, the pivotal filmmaker will co-write and direct the "Twin Peaks" reboot – and what's more, the show has been expanded beyond than the originally announced nine-hour run time. “This damn fine cup of coffee from Mark and David tastes more delicious than ever," Showtime president David Nevins told Indiewire, invoking Dale Cooper's beloved beverage: “[It was] totally worth the extra brewing time and the cup is even bigger than we expected.”
