BBC Three's move online has been delayed until 2016

BBC Three's online move has been delayed, meaning that it will continue to air as a broadcast channel until 2016.

The channel now has a stay of execution while the BBC Trust makes a final decision on the controversial plans.

BBC Three controller Damian Kavanagh told Broadcast: "We won't be rushed. We will do what's right for our fans, not to satisfy deadlines.

"Once we have the Trust's final decision, we'll start doing more online and in social [media], building up to a move online. You simply can't turn around something as groundbreaking as this overnight."

Rick Edwards and Jack Whitehall have previously told Digital Spy that they think the plans are a bad idea, but James Corden - who starred in BBC Three's Gavin & Stacey has voiced his support of the move.

However, BBC director general Tony Hall said that the move will mean BBC Three is at the centre of the corporation's 'online revolution'.

An overwhelming 87% of Digital Spy readers opposed the axe when the BBC made the announcement in March 2014.
Why don't they just axe the idea and let BBC Three live

They've lost their biggest show now already. Family Guy will show Season 13 on BBC Two and then move to ITV2 after that.

I don't really watch it anyway tbh

Blog Rider 23-04-2015 07:03 PM

BBC Three has hardly any content now, Expect it to be filled up with Snooker and other sport soon :)

It's going to die

BBC Three is mostly on my TV even with Sky, do they still have American Dad even when Family Guy moves?

LukeB 25-04-2015 11:02 AM

I think AM is moving too but i'm not sure

T* 25-04-2015 12:13 PM

AD and TCS is moving along with FG

Cal. 25-04-2015 12:42 PM

On then they'll have nothing of interest on there - the only reason I opposed it being axed was because of FG and AD.

It was axed but it's gotten enough eps to be in syndication.

It honestly will, they'll have little to no interesting content as family guy etc is going to itv and things like orphan black will probably be shown on bbc2 because having that online will be too easy to make copies of...
It will perish after about a year

armand.kay 26-04-2015 10:27 AM

bbd three is a mess now, it use to be really hip and cool.

Gstar 26-04-2015 11:02 AM

James Corden needs to shut up, who would support this terrible decision?

Also, I hate when companies/organizations announce they're gonna do something and there is a massive decline from the fans .. but they do it anyway? Very selfish, reminds me of when habbo merged with all the other countries, no one wanted it.

I've stated my opinion on this issue many times on forums, debates, petitions, social media and in emails to Tony Hall so won't repeat myself too much.

But why should I pay over a hundred quid a year when all the BBC will provide that caters to my age will be The Voice, EastEnders, Doctor Who, Sherlock (I dont watch the latter two and watch a few others, but ones that arent aimed at my age group like Pointless) and around 6 shows a year on iPlayer. (because that's all the online BBC Three budget will have money for, because apparently 30m would be better spent in BBC Drama, the same place which already has one of the biggest budgets in the whole of TV.)

It's a piss take if I'm honest, they're providing three channels full of stuff for stuff for 34+?

If they want to alienate our age group from the BBC all together then they're doing an incredible job, even more of a great job than the BBC big wigs like Tony Hall and Zai Bennett have done to sabotage BBC three by giving all of its content away before it is even confirmed.

In 5 or so years when the BBC is made private and starts charging a fee, don't expect many people to pay it.
