Donating Bone Marrow

Well I decided to donate my Bone Marrow to help those in need and I like helping people.

Has anyone else done this? if so what was it like?

A match has to be found first, and from what I know, it's a pretty slim chance. So you just register with them and they take blood.

Oh, I've done the filling in the paper for it, going to hand it in tomorrow, I probs have to wait longer because of my blood type because i have a rare one?

GypsyGoth 04-05-2015 11:09 PM

I think it's rare to be called to donate regardless of blood type. I looked it up and only 367 were found to be matches for people in 2013. Anyway you're doing a brilliant thing

It is a great thing if you decide to go ahead, it isn't as easy as giving blood though, do you have some literature on the process?

I know but aslong as it helps if and when i get that call to do it. i heard they're two methods of doing it.

1.going in for 5 days but your are not staying at the hopsital you have to go back each day
2.stay in hospital for 48 hours.

"Men who have had sex with other men within the past 5 years are currently not eligible to register as a potential volunteer donor. This is because men who have sex with men are, as a group, at increased risk for HIV. See more information regarding this criterion."

Check this out, Luke, in case it prevents you from doing so. I think that's from an American site, the UK laws may be different.

DR1:'Oh no, young Timmy is going to die without this procedure! We need a donor!'
DR2: 'We have one donor... But he's Gay!'
Everyone else: what the ****?

I'm registered with the Anthony Nolan Trust. I went to one of their events, they asked me a lot of questions, weighed and measured me and did a saliva test.

All the info is here: http://www.anthonynolan.org/8-ways-y...FejJtAodWS8A0g
