June Brown losing her sight
 

'EastEnders legend June Brown has revealed that she is losing her sight.

The actress - who has played Dot Branning on the BBC soap since 1985 - said she's afraid of "being poor" if she gives up work.




She told BBC Radio 4: "I see things in my eyes now. My eyes are not very good. In the left occasionally I do get this small circle with what looks like cross-wires.

"I do pray about my sight - maybe it will return."

On the financial implications of leaving EastEnders, she said that the economic crisis has hit her pensions hard.

"You might laugh at that and think 'she'll never be poor when she's old' but I've not squirrelled away lots of money," the 88-year-old explained. "I've had two pensions each that have gone down by 50%."

Earlier this year, Brown was at the centre of EastEnders' 30th anniversary celebrations as Dot was arrested for the murder of her villainous son Nick Cotton.'

....awww so scary to think that you might lose your sight...and I think that she lives alone as well..?..

This is a shame... I guess BBC could release her contract with a decent payout. But then again, she might like her job.

Most at 88 have some macular degenration, she's never going to be poor though is she?

I think it is time that june call it quits, she has to put her health first, at 88 most world actors stop before that age, and I have noticed that she looks very frail, now, I think ee bosses will have to make her stop for the sake of her own health, I can't see june living another 20 years,

I think she'd like to work right to the end. She's basically said as much in interviews.

Some people think working keeps them going and they live longer if they continue with their passion than if they went home and struggled to find something to fill their life.
