Do people like bullies like Marc as makes them feel better about themselves?
 

It's my theory that if someone knows they are not really a nice person inside. Someone like Marc would allow themselves a deflection from that truth with him being such a vile person it diminishes their own in comparison.

Just a theory but depending on how it is attacked could be a strong indicator of how on point it is.
