He is deaf in one ear

Josy 05-06-2015 10:55 PM

Yes, he had a tumor removed when he was young (hence the scar) and his hearing has been affected.

Beso 05-06-2015 10:58 PM

Thanks for that info, I did not know that.that explains a lot.

alex_front2 05-06-2015 11:02 PM

I knew he was deaf, but I didn't notice it until LF

Yes that is why I think he struggles in group situations when they are all shouting at once. You often see him turning his head to one side to hear.

Yeah I thought he was doing that in disbelief at what he was hearing..

Agree. He has never made a fuss about it or played on it when he could have. I do think it accounts for a lot of his insecurities though. That's Cristian. Just looks on the positive and gets on with things.

rusticgal 05-06-2015 11:10 PM

That's why I think he is mid understood. He isn't loud but gets talked over so much. It makes me wonder if the other housemates have taken this into consideration. You wouldn't know it...but surely the other housemates must be aware..... One thing I respect him for is that he hasn't mentioned it once and doesn't cry out for sympathy...also if the other housemates know this they too haven't made comment on it...
I think he is amazing purely because he could have played the sympathy card and he hasn't...his behaviour has been commendable.
Just love him.

Beetlejuice 05-06-2015 11:10 PM

It's great that 4 weeks into this show and people still have no idea of anything to do with Cristian. That's the lack of live coverage for you.

He still makes Sam BB14 look interesting.

It was discussed on here weeks ago

Me too. I think the fact that he has been through so much is probably why, when the other housemates are ranting and raving at trivial things it is probably something in nothing for him. He is a great lad.

Maybe so. But I suspect the vast majority had no idea.

Seems like a nice kid. But he's bloody boring.

Spoon 05-06-2015 11:26 PM

It's a shame this hasn't been mentioned at all. Disabilities become better-understood and less stigmatized when the people they impact explain them.

He has had a good few clips where he is having a laugh but unfortunately BB are intent on only showing us the arguments. This week we have barely known that any of them are there because it has been the Newbies and evictee show. I am sure if he is still in there when there are less people he will be more involved. I don't like him but I think Marq has noticed the other housemates disregard for his problem and has tried to involve him more.

Yeah, but even then he's boring. Didn't Marc say he had the personality of a brick?

Think he has said that to a good few in there. He said it to Danny today.

Marc also said that he(marc), was a bad judge of character!

I spotted this on the live show too. I never knew.

I admire the fact that he doesn't let this disability affect people's opinion of him by making an issue of it. He is a cool guy...good morales...and very smart.
Sam had a deafness issue and IMO won the show because of empathy from the public. Christian is trying to hide this fact and not wanting to win by the sympathy vote.
His deafness makes him different..makes life more challenging...makes life harder by some respect..but he isn't making it an issue...you just have to admire him for that.
The other housemates have treated him indifferently...but they have talked over him a lot.

Rorkimaru 05-06-2015 11:42 PM

That could be why some of the housemates call him arrogant actually. He's turning his head to hear them and they think he's turning away
