This is hardly new though, £150 trainers put together for £2 by someone earning 10p an hour. That's just capitalism. Not here for the same people who celebrate western capitalism and democracy suddenly having a problem with the wider implications. Grrlbye.

Yes but Mike Ashley is hardly telling kids not to vote etc is he

1 - Do you honestly think Brand would be okay with this?? Definitely not.
2 - This is the Daily Mail. A right-wing newspaper, slandering a very left-wing politics-involved person. Think logically.
3 - If this is true it's gross but I highly doubt it

True, but your post seemed to suggest that £5 tops being sold for £70 is in some way surprising... Which it isn't. It's not good, but it's not surprising. It's really the tip of the iceberg, also... Designer dresses costing several thousand cost piss all to make.

I'd be tempted to give Brand the benefit of the doubt here and say that he was probably just ignorant to the situation. Even if you don't believe that he's against it for ethical reasons, you have to believe that he'd know that being involved in this knowingly would damage his image and reputation. I just can't see it. Most likely it's been sorted out by one of his lackeys through a UK proxy who have made false claims about the production process and are actually just bulk importing.

Not that it's a great excuse, it seems like he really should have been checking up on this sort of thing, for the very reasons above.

:joker:

The mail slur campaign continues apace.

user104658 06-06-2015 10:19 AM

From what I can gather from there, the sweaters are sold to them by a UK company who applies the "trews" branding, and it's that company who imports the blank garments from Bangladesh. So - whilst I still maintain as above that they should have checked into this very carefully before buying - it's perfectly feasible that the UK screenprinting company who makes the garments for them wasn't transparent (or even lied?) about the source of the blank items.

user104658 06-06-2015 10:21 AM

With that in mind I agree with Josh (and Kizzy) that this is another blatant "daily mail smear". They havent even bothered to get any sort of comment from Brand or his representatives before publishing. Piss poor and biased journalism, as always from the Mail.
