Was there an actual change in law or is this public awareness? Either way I am glad to know that the number of cold callers will decline

Cold calling is so annoying, when my Grandad died they kept calling my Nan's house and asking for him and it upset her so one day we were there and my mum answered and just said 'he's passed away please stop calling it's distressing for the family' and some indian guy kept talking so my mum repeated herself and the guy called her a bitch and hung up.

So if you can actually stop them by saying that thank you Arista

My dad always tells them that he died in a car crash that morning and they've called at a really inconvenient time

The sky news article doesnt seem like it would actually prevent cold calling, because they still need to have been found 'seriously breaching the law' is that right?

I registered here http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/ctps/number_type.html and touch wood all good so far .

I worked in a call centre, and if you say 'PLEASE TAKE ME OFF YOUR LIST AND NEVER CALL ME AGAIN' (firm but polite) they have to do it. If you don't specifically use those words, or just hang up when they call you, they'll keep doing it.

I leave my landline unplugged and have a block list on my mobile.

It's great, the only time he got caught out was when he thought it was a cold caller but it was actually one of my mum's friends calling to speak to him to arrange a surprise birthday thing for her and he had to quickly apologise and say that he was still alive :joker:

bots 10-06-2015 11:22 PM

there is a website you can register on that prohibits anyone from cold calling you. Sorry I can't remember its web address now as it was several years ago that I used it, but since registering, I have never received a cold call again

Edit ... just seen Erin's post, it certainly works!
