WTF does salt of the earth even mean? Only time I ever heard it was to describe Jay in bb12, so I assumed it meant something along the lines of 'dickhead' :S

I always thought 'salt of the earth' was an insult, meaning something along the lines of fun-wrecker or something, because I know when you put salt into the earth where a flower is, it won't ever grow.

But I googled and apparently it's a saying with biblical roots?

Jack_ 15-06-2015 06:58 PM

Salt of the earth is the opposite to scum of the earth, so basically a great person

At least that's how I've always understood it

He's not perfect and doesn't try to be ,he is ok,has a hint of the devil and some charm too,he just needs to stop thinking that all people will get his humour.

Yeah, marks not fake at all...The only guy who gets a suntan in an Irish winter/spring...gets legs like Schwartzenegger just by eating, and very natural looking eyebrows, not to mention whingeing about the other housemates ganging up on individuals...no he's not fake at all, he's the salt in your coffee. He hates Harry purely because she's not been taken in by his false craic...his face SAYS IT ALL when she appears on SpyTV...I was all for a toss up twixt Jack n Chloe for the win, but now I'm switching to Harry...They said it was going to be a week of incredible twists...marks place in the bunker will come at a price...you watch. At least he can fall back on his upcoming career as Irelands first big Meth producer, or become Shamrockman, dun duh duht duuuun. Got a woman that needs abusing? dial 0892 shamrockman.

Salt of the earth? naah, pure SHAM 100%.

Salt of the earth , in my understanding means something that's nescessary (dayum, I always have probs with that word,) for life. Salt was worth more than gold in times past. So perhaps rather than use an old saying like Salt of the Earth, mark might best be described (by some) as the Fiat Money of the Earth. Myself??? I'd describe him as the cat sh*t someone walked into your good Axminster or Persian rug. Despicable creature. As if ye all didnt know I felt this way about him...To be honest, BB's been a bit of a bummer this season, hardly a decent actor amongst them. Dull as dishwater or overly fake..no happy medium between those two.

Isn't that the kind of bullying language, ad sexist claptrap, that you spend your time on here complaining about?

I'm claiming Salt of the Earth as an Irish phrase until someone posts my research proving otherwise:nono: But yeah, good decent person does it for me. probably the best description of its meaning.
