The art of conversation DEAD?

Really?

prove me wrong.

Ella 09-01-2007 11:05 PM

Ummm come again??

:banana::banana:

Ruth 10-01-2007 10:06 AM

LOL! If you think the art of conversation is dead, you must be talking to the wrong people!

Ella 10-01-2007 10:18 AM

Yeah Lol......A forum is the last place you need to be saying that Ryan

Sunny_01 10-01-2007 06:55 PM

Hmmm you might just have a point Jigsaw - you just have to look about this forum to see that it is a dying skill. People can end a thread with one word answer - one word answers tend to leave you with no scope for discussion.

As a "real" person away from the forum I am in the business of communicating with people so would hate to think our online community turned into our real one!

I prefer to talk to someone and listen to them rather than just banter backwards and forwards all the time. Yep I agree banter has its place and can be fun but when it spills over into every discussion it is tiresome.

So sorry Ryan I can not prove you wrong lol

I take your point, I hate one line responces when there should be an explanation too. It kills threads and to be honest doesnt inspire a responce.

I love a good debate but they seem to be few and far between. Having said that... if you look hard enough... you may just find a few

Sunny_01 10-01-2007 07:11 PM

*looks hard* nope hard to find - have you got a map Kiz?

Seriously though even off the message boards on word answers are so frustrating - it does nothing to promote a good old discussion.

I can ramble on for hours with my pals - even though we might only have seen each other the day before, we never get tired of chatting to each other.

Its funny, I never thought of myself as a person with any good opinions. I suppose it was a lack of self esteam. However, since meeting the lovely Red  he has brought out a side in me that loves a good debate. Its nice to be challenged :flowers:

Sunny_01 10-01-2007 07:20 PM

Oh yes I imagine Red is truly challenging lol

It is nice to meet someone that can bring out the best in you, my hubby does that and we can debate the length of a piece of string

I think that slowly Kiz we are proving Ryan wrong lol

That made me giggle.

I used to run away from anything that would be argued against.

I find it frustrating now that people dont know how to get their opinions across. And now I'm even asking for an explanation if a one word responce is given..... hardly the shy wee thing I was :blush2:

Watch this space.....LOL.

Sunny_01 10-01-2007 07:27 PM

The thing is Kiz - you only answer things in a way that commands debate - rather than in a " I dare you to disagree" kind of way - which is great that is exactly how conversations are started and take place. Mutual respect of each others opinion.

Now Ryan - thank you for opening this thread it is making at least 2 of us have a conversation :cheer:

~Kizwiz~ 10-01-2007 07:33 PM

Exactly..... I would rather go for asking why someone has said something instead of jumping on their backs. I hate confrontation but I think its good too challange people in a repecting way.

Yeah to Ryan

Sunny_01 10-01-2007 07:41 PM

That all said I can do the nicey nicey but I can be a bit in yer face when I think someone is taking the water!

~Kizwiz~ 10-01-2007 07:45 PM

Oh dont get me wrong, I've had to bite my tongue on here many many times. Its not very often that I bite back.... it has happened once I think

EDIT: Must dash..... got CBB to watch soon :xyxwave:

Oooh - sorry I thought Ryan meant the art of conversation is dead in actual life - but yes, I agree, on forums, conversation is a dying art unfortunately. I hate it when a thread is really interesting and then it either becomes a private argument between two members, or someone just posts a one word answer that kills the whole discussion.

But in real life, I do believe the art of conversation is alive and well!

I agree in real life conversation lives - Being someone whos job focuses around communication I feel that many people are losing the skills they were born with to hold a normal conversation, either through to much TV or games etc.. now I am not saying just young people here either there are a lot of older people who prefer to sit staring at a screen for hours on end day in day out.
