They really won't be pleased until this planet is fooked up beyond repair for future generations will they?
We are a ruddy island..use the sea, the tide comes in the tide goes out, can't be that hard to sort out.
Every house that is built, make it law to have solar panels on the roof. Use the natural resources that are harmless, fracking could do no end of damage.

I can see why people are up in arms about this, but at the same time we're all energy junkies.

Read a good article today about how when the lights go out in Britain the cheery locals will be popping open champagne bottles at having prevented another energy project in their area. No one wants fracking in their communities, no one wants windmills or solar panels for blighting the landscape, people don't want tidal power in the Severn because it will disrupt the birds, coal power stations get targeted by Greenpeace nuts, and we've not had a nuclear power station built in this country for over twenty years. Like Livia said we're all energy junkies but when it's our back garden that gets threatened everyone grabs for the nearest pitchfork.

I'd be fine with tidal/wind stuff in Blackpool hell, I can see a wind farm in the middle of the sea just off the coast, and I can see Heysham and its Nuclear power station on a good day, I have no problem with either of these. I just don't want some ****ty oil drilling to **** up the towns ecosystem for good. It's high time we stopped bleeding the earth for every last drop and started looking for real alternatives.

I dunno. For the mostpart I agree with you, people need to stop whinging about green energy projects "spoiling their view" or whatever and I can even see the arguments for modern coal power stations and nuclear especially in a country as geologically stable as the UK... However, fracking is a slightly different issue. The technology has been jumped on in an almost kneejerk fashion by governments when, in reality, the potential long term effects are devastating and woefully understudied. Personally I think we could stand to let the US be their own fracking guinea-pigs for at least half a century and then, if it hasn't turned out to be a disaster, it'll still be there as an option. For now, the risks outweigh the benefits.

Could solar panels cause earthquakes or poison water supplies?
'people' are increasingly aware of an energy crisis, even in the leafy burbs they're waking up especially as they realise that fracking will soon be coming to a town near them.... on our doorstep? That will have everyone reaching for the placards and pitchforks yes.

The profits made by the oil industry is sickening when you think of how much could be done with that money to further research and development into alternatives.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.8 has been recorded in Rutland in the east Midlands.

The epicentre of the quake was north of Oakham, with residents also reporting feeling the tremor in Northamptonshire.

The British Geological Survey said the quake struck at 10.40pm on Tuesday.

It is the second time this year the area has been shaken by tremors, with a 3.8-magnitude earthquake recorded in January.'

'A Northamptonshire MP says the controversial technique of fracking is safe and would be welcome in Northamptonshire.

Brian Binley, the Conservative MP for Northampton South, says the alleged dangers of fracking are a nonsense and the technique is essential to solving Britain's energy crisis. Other Northamptonshire MP's agree and so does MEP Roger Helmer.'

People in Northamptonshire felt an earthquake this morning that measured 3.2 on the Richter scale.

The epicentre of the earthquake was Oakham in Rutland but tremors were felt in Northamptonshire, in particular the Corby area.'
