no parking machines Cardigan booms

Charles Bronson style Vigilantes in the wonderful picturesque mighty republic of cardigan have taken the law into their own hands and broken the 4 car parking machines in the town. business in the town centre and especially in the smaller shops has boomed UP BY BETWEEN 20% and 50%:cheer2: as people are parking for free.....the council are of course hell bent on fixing the machines for £24,000...

Instead of grabbing this easy money on the front end, if the council has ever worked out theyd make vastly more on the back end IF they allowed these town centres to grow....

I wonder if these councillors have ever bothered to work out HOW MUCH MORE MONEY THEY WOULD RAKE IN TOO IF THEY ALLOWED THESE SMALL BUSINESSES AND TOWN CENTRES TO GROW, WITH ALL LOCAL BUSINESSES WENT UP 20% TRADING? SOME UP BY 50% BOOM. CARDIGAN IS ABSOLUTELY BOUNCING...MORE VISITORS TO ALL THE ATTRACTIONS, THE SHOPS , THE LOVELY HARBOUR, THE HOLIDAY PARKS, THE CASTLES,MORE PROFITS, MORE TAXES, RAISE COUNCIL TAXES, RAISES RATES, MORE JOBS CREATED ETC ETC MORE WONGA FOR THE COUNCIL AND PUBLIC SERVICES TOO

if only these councillors would for a split second think outside their little boxes....rant over lol (and no I don't know if theyre a tory, liberal, ukip, greenpeace, new labour or monster raving loony council, I don't care, this is common sense)

bravo cardigan vigilantes:wavey:

I couldn't agree more.

My local market town is beautiful and historical. You can park free for an hour and then you have to pay... through the nose. If people visit, they park for an hour, rush round and get what they want then leave. Before parking changes were introduced people would visit, wander round the shops, have coffee or lunch. Now, as a consequence of local authority greed (and this is a council that has a MASSIVE cash reserve, they're not short of money at all)many independent shopss have closed down and there are 11 charity shops in town. It's a sad state of affairs

There's a large car park in the town I work in that's free, and I'd say it hypothetically does have a large impact on business. People come in to do what they actually came in for, but they're in no rush so can hang around for a while (and in my line of work, hanging around too long = more money for the shop... Haw haw) whereas if they had an hour many would be out the door pretty fast.

I can also see how it would massively impact small businesses like cafés and pubs/bars that do lunches. If you have to worry about parking charges, are you going to go for a full lunch where you might have to wait 15 mins and will probably want to sit and relax, or are you going to grab a McDonald's or Greg's sausage roll?

So really, removing parking charges could also reduce the burden on the NHS by making people healthier! OK that one might be a stretch. But I am in agreement: down with parking charges.

You know, if a large UK wide vigilante group committed to smashing every single one every time it was replaced, they'd probably give up on fixing them pretty quickly... Hmmm...

me too....meanwhile all out of town car parks for the retail giants ARE FREE
(the whole argument pubic v private services is a false one , as its the councils who are selling the people out to the corporate giants)
