Good. The cigarette butts probably get all soggy from the used condoms.

I'd rather the cigarette butts if I'm honest.

[So they want to try and ban smoking on Brighton beaches??? How long before they ban smoking all together.]

I don't understand smokers. Why make the choice to start in the first place?

LeatherTrumpet 21-07-2015 05:25 PM

Fag butts on Brighton beach?

Its less of a beach and more of a driveway by the sea

I remember being taken to Brighton as a kid all excited thinking I was going to the proper seaside, but... no. Stones is not a beach.

I had a terrible row on Brighton Beach once with the old Mrs LT. We had a romantic weekend at the Grand and it was rather tainted by a shouting match on the pebbles out the front. I forget what it was about

joeysteele 21-07-2015 06:23 PM

Ridiculous open public spaces are either that or not at all.
Bonkers to me, fine indoors but no way outdoors should this even be considered in ym view..

I disagree, there is no need for children to see anything,I am sure on a beach children are far more interested in other things than someone smoking a cigarette.

I,as a child, hardly noticed anything, being far more occupied with playing with mates.

Smokers are not dirty and stinking either, I have never smoked but find such terminologies as to describe them as such rather over the top.
As I said, fine, as to indoor events and indoor areas but out in the open, plain dictatorial and ridiculous in my view, and once on that road, where will it end as to what people may do outdoors.

bitontheslide 21-07-2015 06:52 PM

smoking is banned in all public places in many international cities, with smoking bins at authorised places. I think it works well, and keeps the streets etc a lot cleaner

It doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I was around many smokers at Uni and indeed some of my family do too, I have not the slightest problem with it.

AnnieK 21-07-2015 08:47 PM

As an ex smoker I dislike the smell of smoking indoors but I continue to have the belief that if councils and the government continue to impose bans on smokers they should outlaw smoking completely instead of driving smokers to be second class citizens who are banned from anywhere. They, of course, won't dream of doing that due to tax revenue.....if all the smokers quit, this country would be in a worst state than it is now...

Exactly,it is not illegal to smoke or buy cigarettes in the UK and while, as I have said above, can agree that in buildings a restriction,as to smoking should be permitted
It is beyond all understanding,to me anywya, that people can be in 'bother' for doing something in public areas, such as a vast beach, for not doing anything illegal whatsoever.

It is a disgrace,as you point out, to make any such person appear to be or feel to be a 2nd class citizen.

Kizzy 24-07-2015 09:44 AM

Hopefully from a health perspective it will encourage those trying to quit to have the resolve outdoors too, as an ex smoker I don't think that smokers are 2nd class citizens or that's the intention, it may seem like it but on a positive note it's a support tool.
