Essex Locals FED UP with TOWIE!

coming out on ITV news... just saw it...

The Only Way is Essex tours, stag parties and hen nights in Brentwood are "putting off a demographic of local people", a councillor has said.
The ITV reality show attracts fans to filming locations, nightspots like Sugar Hut and its stars' businesses.
Brentwood borough councillor Chris Hossack said some people did not "feel comfortable around the whole hen night, Saturday night thing in Brentwood".
Tour guide Courtney Harrison said visitors had never caused problems.

"We've never had an issue with anyone on the tour - it's more so the people in Brentwood," he said.
Conservative Mr Hossack said credit should be given to

"people who were in the show early on for their entrepreneurial spirit".
But he added: "This whole thing of people coming in from all four corners of the UK, hen nights, stag dos, walking round Brentwood with selfie sticks - I think it's putting off a demographic of local people.

"Brentwood is predominantly for Brentwood people. Yes, there are people coming in from outside, and spending money, and that's good for the economy so we shouldn't decry that.

"But let's not forget people in Brentwood want to use their town. You've got to consider the local people as well as the economic vibrancy of the town."
Gareth Barratt, a Labour borough councillor, said the programme's popularity "genuinely provides a benefit to our town".

"We actually have people spending money in our town who aren't our own citizens. I think it's always easy to find extreme views," he added.
Neither ITV or Lime Pictures, the company which makes the show, endorse Towie tours.

must be a nightmare, the show shouldn't have been renewed for another 6 seasons...

professional?

:joker:

Will. 04-08-2015 05:18 PM

what a mess, £52 for a show that barely anyone watchers, when I get free tickets to watch BGT/X Factor/CBB.

Will. 04-08-2015 05:28 PM

Think it was just ITV doing a publicity stunt for the show, there were no facts or figures shown lmao.

I think they should realise the show is a flop if it gets huge advertisement in prime time TV and yet it still gets like 400k overnight.

Is this really a serious debate?

well it was on BBC news/ITV news, I didn't think it suited general chat.

Did TOWIE really get 1.7m at one point? :o

I thought its peak was like 1.3m or something. Welp at a series of a TOWIE averaging more than BB16. :umm2:

Wasn't that back in like 2011?

I do think they should've axed TOWIE in like 2013, TBH. I remember back in 2011 and 2012 when it was new and fresh and you'd often hear people talking about it - even though I didn't watch it. But nowadays it seems stale, and you hardly hear anyone talk about it. BB post BB8 teas.

It really did. It actually got 1.85 Million for the Series 2 finale, 2.1 Million for the first episode of Series 3, and then an even higher 2.225 Million for the final of Series 3.

Since then it's dropped.

not going lie I was a 12 year obsessed with TOWIE, I wouldn't stop talking about it! I just loved it tbh, i have no idea why! But now its terrible.

The original cast

Will. 04-08-2015 08:08 PM

my obsession with it died about series 5/6.

Jason. 04-08-2015 08:09 PM

I'm looking at the TOWIE ratings now. Series 12 last year did quite well and got around 1.5m, which isn't too bad. Considering every series since Series 4 got around 1.2m.

I do think the fact that it has moved to ITVBe (a less known channel) hasn't really done it any favours. Although, TBH TOWIE should've been axed after Series 5, lbr.

Will. 04-08-2015 08:11 PM

yeah it went down hill from about season 5, yeah ITVBe hasn't down it any favours, although it gets prime time advertisement, like during BGT finale.

I still have season 1 -3 on DVD :hehe:

Jason. 04-08-2015 08:12 PM

welp at TOWIE doing better than Love Island.

Love Island deserves more than a measly 500k.

Oaker 04-08-2015 08:14 PM

Love Island was worse than BB, it was awful :umm2:

Eh?

I enjoyed it far more than BB16, TBH. Heck, I enjoyed it more than BB15. I thought it was great. Not as good as the original run ten years ago, but I still found it enjoyable viewing, well the first 4 weeks were anyway.

Will. 04-08-2015 08:18 PM

BB6 persuaded me to watch it, and I liked it tbh.
