BBAU: Big Brother House dismantled, revival unlikely

Quote:

A return for Big Brother in Australia is looking very unlikely, as the House at Dreamworld has been dismantled.

Reports are currently suggesting that the Big Brother House – located at Dreamworld Theme Park on Australia’s Gold Coast – has been dismantled. This also comes as Channel 9 confirmed that they have no immediate plans to bring back Big Brother.

All references to Big Brother have been removed from Nine’s website however the network’s chief programming and production chief Andrew Backwell insisted: “We have no plans to bring it back at this stage, it is however still in consideration so we are certainly not ruling it out.

“We also believe it would work brilliantly on GO but we need to work through a business case to see if the investment was viable.”

It was originally believed that Nine were looking into bringing back Celebrity Big Brother, but the idea was scrapped after rival network TEN created their own version of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! earlier this year.

It is also believed that no other network is currently interested in purchasing the rights to Big Brother – which expire from Nine in 2016. Big Brother originally aired between 2001 an 2008 on TEN before being axed due to low ratings.

Nine later revived the series in 2012 and aired three series between 2012 and 2014.

Sad really, it was one of the best series.

BB10 was so good, such a shame

Such a shame, 2013's series was one of my favourites of all time. 2014's on the other hand just didn't feel the same (though I'd take that over Power Trip any day). BBAU, along with BBCAN are possibly the best versions of BB that I've seen in recent times.

The house was beautiful

Firewire 08-08-2015 03:28 PM

Did they dismantle it after 2008?

I'm not shocked feat. Jazzi P at all tbh

No, Dreamworld left it abandoned until the revival in 2012.

I've only seen like a week or two of BBAU9 and 10 since the beginning of the school year is always hectic and not a good time for me invest in a show like this but I've heard only bad things about the reboot so I guess it's for the better (I'm looking at you, Channel 5)

SuperV 09-08-2015 06:14 AM

At least it won't be demolished, just stripped of its cameras .

Reguerdon 09-08-2015 07:33 AM

Only a dismantle which proves they're not fully chucking away the hope of Big Brother. Channel Nine is the king of reviving dead programs, bringing back Australia's Got Talent, Celeb Apprentice etc. so I wouldn't be surprised if we see Big Brother back within the coming years.

After the 2014 series I think it definitely needed a rest anyway.

Actually yes they did. The word they are using is dismantled which means it'll be stripped and left emptied, just like it was between 2008 and 2012.

The Big Brother House will not be dismantled Dreamworld CEO Craig Davidson confirmed clearing up rumours started by Melbourne Newspaper The Herald Sun stating that the house was being dismantled.

“The Big Brother house at Dreamworld is currently not being dismantled and is still available for further productions,” Davidson told The Associated Press of Australia

The Dreamworld CEO having spoken to The Nine Network has said “Nine is yet to make a “definitive” decision on the future of the reality TV show”

“The house will be kept in a condition to make it readily available for another series.”

Andrew Blackwell (The Nine Network) told the Herald Sun Newspaper earlier this week “We have no plans to bring it back at this stage (In 2015), it is however still in consideration so we are certainly not ruling it out,” he said.

“We also believe it would work brilliantly on GO but we need to work through a business case to see if the investment was viable.”

The Nine Network has not publicly said Big Brother has been axed and no decision has been made on a 2016 at this stage.

It was originally believed that Nine were looking into bringing back Celebrity Big Brother, but the idea was scrapped after rival network TEN created their own version of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! earlier this year.

It is assumed that a decision about Big Brother will be made in November when The Nine Network does programming for 2016.

The current contract for Big Brother ends in early 2016.

If it wasn't so family-targeted it might have survived.

I don't mind their version being family-friendly along with an uncut show, but when it's specifically aimed at all ages without Adults Only then it becomes this diluted, plastic crap.

As much as I still watched it, it still felt so fake and produced. Not much actual reality and realism to be found when BB constantly pokes and prods the housemates.

sarakss 21-08-2015 06:53 PM

9 Network ruined the series over the past couple years. Enough with the intruders, the pets and sanitizing everything. Put the show on a regular schedule and stop having 3 days on and 4 days off. That killed the show a lot because from Eviction Day Thursday to Monday, they had no show, then you had nominations on Monday and crap Tuesday/Wednesday.

I know AU is not as cutthroat as US, but come on! This is BB, not Sesame Street.

2013 was such a great series. :flutter:
