I'm shocked, stunned and horrified as I spend a fair bit of time in Bangkok...this is so uncharacteristic of anything that happens in the city.

My love, thoughts and prayers are with everyone.

And mine Anaesthesia.

I'm just constantly looking for updates, to me it makes no sense that it would be a terrorist attack, who on earth do the Thais annoy? I am well aware it's a tourist area, but even in tourist areas in Thailand you'll see way more Thais than foreign nationals...if they wanted tourists surely they would go somewhere like Khao San?

It doesn't even make any sense that it would be a result of the political tension in Thailand, I was there when the "riots" were going on about 20 months ago, there were isolated shootings and a bit of razor wire up, but on the whole, the protest were peaceful with a lot of singing, and even musical events going on right at the heart of them.

I just don't understand who would want to do this in Bangkok, of all places. A friend's father is a buddhist monk really pretty close to that shrine, I am trying to contact her to see if everything is ok and I truly hope it is.

3 bombs by a religious shrine though, it's pretty likely to be a terrorist attack

You'd go a long way to avoid a shrine in Bangkok...the fact that this is a Hindu shrine especially popular with Chinese makes it even more confusing to me :(

2 bombs were planted confirmed On BBC news, being a gentle race doesn't protect you from terrorism, look at Bali?

3 were planted, one was discovered in time. Bali was mostly targeted at Australians in a Muslim country, if they are after Westerners, would have made much more sense to put one at one of the 3 enormous shopping malls in the area...not saying anyone did or didn't do it, just because I know Thailand so well I'm having a hard time making sense of who / why.

Do you know when the London Bombers were starting
The BBC kept saying
its a Electrical Fault.

Only SkyNews Confirmed first it was a terrorist attack

I have 5 TV News feeds (2 with subtitles)
from all these world news
I can say its a Fact
and it was a Terrorist Bomber

I don't really care whether you are right, wrong, or jumping to conclusions tbh. I have family and friends there and we are all trying to make sense of it. I don't want to speculate, all I am saying in this thread is that I REALLY don't understand, why there?

arista 17-08-2015 02:51 PM

"why there? "

Outside the Shrine
was selected.

Terrorists do not care if its a sacred place
Look at Isis the way they Destroy Sacred Buildings
The World can change fast

arista 17-08-2015 02:53 PM

SkyNewsHD Live is now debating Why?

OK, the shrine was selected. Presumably for its high footfall of Chinese and Indians then rather than Westerners. This is what I am trying to make sense of.

If they wanted to destroy REALLY sacred buildings, they didn't have far to go.

arista 17-08-2015 02:56 PM

"they didn't have far to go."

2 other Devices were found
one on the Sky Train

The Skytrain is not a sacred building. I was talking about sacred buildings in my post, in response to you.

Arista, I have a lot of respect for your posts, but you are trying to contradict me when I am neither looking for contradiction nor argument, just trying to make sense of what has just happened, with a lot of people I love nearby or thereabouts, thankfully all safe.

Let's just wait until we have the facts, and from that, I do not mean from Sky, I mean from a local news source, HD or not.

arista 17-08-2015 03:04 PM

CNN is reporting this went on one year ago

Yellow Shirts Vs Red Shirts etc.
