would you ban ticket touting?

tickets for boxing at 1000s each, football tickets all over the place, cricket over inflated, Wimbledon debenture mens final sold for £8000 a ticket? concerts selling at hugely infated prices all over the UK and the US...rugby sells at huge prices too

is it right these people are allowed to profit from this or would you make it illegal?

Ammi 24-08-2015 05:53 AM

...yeah, in an ideal world I would make it illegal truth....these things are ridiculously high prices from ticket sites and should be available and affordable for everyone...

waterhog 24-08-2015 07:00 AM

I am sure the providers of tickets are in on this and give the doubts so many.

bots 24-08-2015 07:05 AM

They wouldn't charge those prices unless people were prepared to pay them

There will always be exclusion in everything, it is part of human nature and will never be eradicated. Laws can be put in place to make certain aspects illegal, but this will always be overcome one way or another. Theatre land in London thrives off of last minute tickets that can be purchased legally. For me that type of service is the ideal solution.

So true.

The disgusting element of this, is that ordinary bona fide boxing/sports/theater goers of average means, are being deprived of seats for venues by the practice.

As WaterHog says, it is beyond all doubt that the ticket issuers are "in on this" because there are numerous examples of tickets being allocated in certain ways that facilitate the touts securing huge numbers to the detriment of the General Public.

Banning 'Ticket Touting' may well prove to be an impotent gesture but it is - at least - a token step in the right direction.

the truth 24-08-2015 01:44 PM

its only banned for the Olympics, Wimbledon (ballots banned debenture all legally sold) and football but everyone sells football regardless
everything else its legal to sell

Niamh. 24-08-2015 01:59 PM

Yeah definitely, it's really unfair that they buy up all the tickets just to sell them to the people who actually want to see an event at ridiculous prices

the truth 24-08-2015 05:19 PM

not sure a total ban could ever work, it would also make the market too inflexible with people needing to sell off unwanted or last minute tickets......people who buy them are taking the gamble of being able to sell them...BUT there must be enormous corruption with the box offices holding back tickets for the black market

Northern Monkey 24-08-2015 05:28 PM

I used one once for an Oasis concert that my mates went to when there was no tickets left.Only paid a tenner over the price after haggling for abit.Would'nt pay way over the odds though.I don't think you can stop it tbh.

JoshBB 24-08-2015 06:21 PM

I mean.. tickets aren't a necessity and I don't think I would make it illegal for people to resell their tickets, like in the rare example that the ticket-owner falls ill and sells it to their neighbour or something.. but it's definitely wrong when people resell the tickets for much higher than their original price.

yes. its a middle class sport in England and the demand is phenomenal

Livia 26-08-2015 01:32 PM

Yes I bloody would ban it. You're not allowed to stand outside venues and tout tickets for hugely inflated prices, but if you've got a website it's okay, it seems. No one should be able to sell a ticket for more than a 10% profit. It usually means true fans of the sport/artist/whatever are priced out of events. Artists themselves should speak out against it.

I agree, infact I don't think you should be allowed to resell tickets for more than they were bought for at all

Iceman 26-08-2015 01:48 PM

Yeah Dublin are playing Mayo in the all Ireland semi final and tickets ar going for 6 times face value.

bots 26-08-2015 01:58 PM

its always going to be a problem when demand outstrips supply. Its standard economics in every single item that is bought and sold across the world.
