They\'re not racist, they just don\'t like her. Everyone should stop being so ridiculous!

Hey guys

I just think it's ludicrous to start claiming that the nastiness directed at Shilpa is racially motivated.

I think there have been a few sneaky comments that could have been misconstrued as mildly racist, but I don't think it was intentional.

I have to say I can see where the three girls are coming from as I find Shilpa highly irritating and she does appear to be very fake (her outrageously exaggerated laugh, seemingly unnatural mannerisms and the whole "feel sorry for me" thing). I think that the girls just genuinely don't like her and I don't think the question of race has ever come into it. I just think Shilpa is genuinely unlikeable and I find it very hard to watch her without getting exasperated.

My opinions are not racially motivated and I would be disgusted if there were any signs of racism in the house, but I think this is just another case of idiotic and easily led members of the British public who need something to complain about, coupled with the media blowing it out of proportion. I think a white British girl with Shilpa's personality and mannerisms would recieve exactly the same treatment and it would be highly naive to think otherwise.

Just my opinions but I think people are being far too sensitive and too willing to play the race card at the drop of a hat. This is clearly nothing to do with racism.

Also, I do think they are ganging up on her a bit unnessicarily and you can feel the tension, but she does just keep doing highly annoying things. For example, flushing a stew with bones in it down the toilet - what the ****** was that about? However, I do think that a few comments such as "Use your teeth Shilpa" and Danielle talking about putting something in Shilpa's curry were out of order and shouldn't have been said. Bearing that in mind, they are not racist. I wouldn't want someone picking at my food or controlling what I eat or what goes on the shopping list, and I would laugh at any woman parading around with shaving foam on her face; black or white.

Interested to hear other ppl's views. Cheers

if hey dont like her they dont need to bit** abt her behind her back and make nasty comments about her or take the micky out of her indian accent thats what the racist remarks come from..

charred_nipple 16-01-2007 09:42 PM

They bitch about her because they don't like her and I can see why. If we're gonna start gettin sensitive about people mimicking accents, I'd like to remind ppl of two situations:

1. Shilpa commenting the other day how Jade stretches all of her words and then asking her to "Say a line" and then mimicking what she said
2. I think it was yesterday when she mimicked how the cockneys said whale.

Let's be fair if we're going to be pathetic.

Sasha 16-01-2007 09:43 PM

Racism isnt just chucking a brick through a window and saying "go home"

Ive stated racism from the minute jackie called her an indian to cleo..... thats way before the papers got hold of it

I know what racism is and so does a MAJORITY of sane ppl in the UK..... What u see on bb is racism!

charred_nipple 16-01-2007 09:46 PM

I'm not stupid, I completely understand the scale of racism and the many forms in which it can be expressed, but I think any comments which the girls may have made can be attributed to cultural ignorance, not racism.

From what I have seen they haven't really said anything that was racist.

If anyone wants to post some examples I am prepared to eat humble pie!

The_Hitman 16-01-2007 09:58 PM

There was a Racist Quote thread so that everybody could understand this ridiculous situation but the Admins thought it appropriate to lock it.

It was about as relevant as anything on here, but hey, who cares about logic!!

Cupcakes9 16-01-2007 10:06 PM

Shilpa can be annoying, but jeez, you don't go at it the way these three have. They sit there and they bully and they pick her apart. They call her every name under the sun. Shilpa is not fake, she's just herself - that much is obvious. I know plenty of people with annoying laughs and who at times can be slightly controlling but do I actually BULLY them? Absolutely not!

It isn't racism, it is ignorant bullying. Shilpa has never been to the UK before and is from a completely different culture altogether, you know? Their attitudes are terrible. I don't like some people, but I don't do what they do.

It was Jermaine's idea to flush the stew down the toilet. It was stupid of her to carry it out as well, but we all do daft things, and why didn't the girls pipe up before she did it?

Chrizzle 16-01-2007 10:19 PM

Well firstly welcome to the forum and secondly I completely agree.
I think everyones being so silly about it all!

Haha, theres a phrase about 'sticking your head in the sand'. Its what people do when they cant face reality.

Its not just a game though, lets be realistic.

Big Brother is a VERY influential aspect of British popular culture. Just be thankful that members of our society have the courage to make attempts to make is as positive to younger generations as is humanly possible.

Shilpa isnt the one complaining. Shes kicking on admirably.

Its the viewers that arnt prepared to put up with it.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE

GlitterEyes 17-01-2007 12:50 AM

If the viewers didn't like the show they would of switched off by now...like some did when Jade entered. I think everything is being blown out of proportion especially mocking someones accent...it is fun having a laugh at accents we have all done it. The fact that Shilpa also has mocked accents makes people seem very hypocritical. Plus I don't personally think one comment makes someone a racist. People say things in heat of the moment or in anger...if there was any real racist in the house it would be alot clearer and you could tell by the way they would act. Jack made one comment and the people who are gunning for his life (death threats being sent in etc)...are no better. The whole racism thing is pathetic yet it springs up year after year.

Its not just about choosing your evenings entertainment. Its about people with a sense of taste making sure that the youth of this country are given the right message when they are young.

Somebody started a thread about 'Hitlers youth', and although it isnt that serious, it is that same premise which we as adults have the ability to control if we voice our opinions.

you seem to have it sussed

Havn;t been readint he news lately have you

GlitterEyes 17-01-2007 01:27 AM

I think the papers blow everything up and into a big thing. The papers print rubbish most of the time anyway.

Donkeylegs 17-01-2007 02:00 AM

As far as I've noticed she has not construed or even heard the racist overtones..... Maybe coming from India proper she doesn't even recognise racists comments.... in her own country she is in the majority and a relatively well placed member of her society.... She does feel the negative vibes and dislike but has a problem identifying the cause.....

It could be Class or Race..... but if it is Personal I fail to see what evil deeds she committed to deserve her treatment......

Jermaine being raised in the USA clearly recognises the signs of racism (even if based on ignorance.... isn't most racial and religious prejudice based on ignorance!!) .... and on several occasions has hinted to Bolly that this may be the basis.

GlitterEyes 17-01-2007 02:04 AM

I think if they were really racist you could see a mile away. Certain comments are just being taken out on context....mocking her accent is one which has raised such a debate...yet nothing is being said about when Shilpa does the same. People are taking things far to serious and need to lighten up.

you cant see it. so your thoeries seem hollow in context.

shilpa did it ONCE. Not only has jade done it, so has jo and danielle SEVERAL times.

there is a difference

i hope you're subject to the same "gental jokey bullying" that you're adament Shilpa is getting.

watch how you'll change your tune

If they're not racist, why are they making comments like
"In India do they really cook that way?"
and imitating her accent?
