Anyone for a codeword game?

The following is the opening sentance from a book.

6 22 - 6 4 - 23 11 6 2 18 15 4 19 10 10 13 - 19 21 20 11 12 25 10 18 8 17 18 8, - 22 5 19 22 - 19 - 4 6 11 17 10 18 - 26 19 11 - 6 11 - 16 12 4 4 18 4 4 6 12 11 - 12 9 - 19 -
17 12 12 8 - 9 12 15 22 23 11 18, - 26 23 4 22 - 24 18 - 6 11
- 25 19 11 22 - 12 9 - 19 - 25 6 9 18.

F V - F D - W K F B R...this doesn't make any sense.

Suze 02-09-2015 02:36 PM

Codeword answer is :
It is universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.

Love codewords :)

Love codewords :)

Me too. Do you prefer using letters or numbers?

This is intriguing Jenny. Is the person who solves the code responsible for setting the next puzzle? If so - Come on Suze.

I prefer the way you have done it Jenny, with the numbers, though that's the only way I have seen them. I like something to tax my brain a bit, I bought a logic puzzle book only a couple of days ago, I love those also.

The key is to first work out which are the vowels. Give them a go, they are fun

Good idea Kirk. Yes please Suze, your turn.

Suze 03-09-2015 04:25 PM

Ok just this once  let me find a quote, then I will numberise it.

Okay Suze I'm usually ace at codewords, but I've been working on this for awhile now and still no nearer solving it. Can I ask, is the quote in question form?:conf:

It's a quote from a well known US Author, His name is in the quote at the end.

Clue: Mississippi might help in working out who the Author is.

How do you do this D:

You have to try to figure out what letter each number represents, As Suze suggested it's best to try to get the vowels first.
Some codewords use letters insrtead of numbers.
When I've cracked this one of Suze's I'll post a codeword using letters. Have a go, it's fun.

Finally I did it.

All being well I'll post a new codeword tomorrow.:wavey:

It doesn't make sense because if the person is Mark Twain, then the "3" is M. But one of the words also begins with a "3" yet the quote you posted doesn't have a word beginning with M.

just checked and it is correct, as it reads as 'Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please'

Mark Twain

Looking forward to the letters one Jennifer, as I haven't seen one done that way.

The word 'them' has a 3 in it.
