what thoughts?

Ashley. 13-09-2015 12:40 PM

Yeah I read about that... Absolutely awful... Imagine if something like that happened here in the UK? More people would probably care.... I guess that's just society.

It was god that sent a thunderbolt that knocked the crane down

Lostie! 13-09-2015 12:42 PM

That's awful.

Crimson Dynamo 13-09-2015 12:48 PM

rather ironic that an act of "god" should wipe out 100 at Mecca

Crimson Dynamo 13-09-2015 12:48 PM

and on 9/11 date..

Kizzy 13-09-2015 12:48 PM

I did read about it yes, I didn't make a thread as what else is there to say except 'that's terrible'?
It's a tragic accident, they happen.

Yes a Storm caused that

user104658 13-09-2015 12:53 PM

It woz only dust-faces LT, no harm done. If there were any Brits there they would all have been immigrants anyway, probably on benefits, so just means us tax payers will be shelling out less for fags and tattoos rite?

It's not actually a race issue, just an empathy issue. People feel worse for people "like them" because they have "lives like theirs", therefore they can more easily imagine that it WAS them, therefore they feel worse.

If it was Americans people would be more concerned, yes, but this probably applies regardless of whether or not the injured Americans (or Brits, other Europeans, etc.) are white or not... sooo... it's cultural bias rather than racial, basically.

I dont get why people not reacting to this is an issue, look at it this way, a car crash in your home town is going to be more important news to you than a motorway crash 400 miles away. Of course people would react more if the crane crash happened in the UK, because it's closer to home. You could just as easily ask why no one is talking about the shooting in Marseille or the Californian wildfires.

I totally agree.

.. I did see and read this story and didn't post it because I waited to see if it was posted by anyone else..and yes, tragic but it's no cultural thing or racial thing or anything else that may be implied...we cannot, none of us can..take on and absorb all tragedy, deaths and sadness in the world, otherwise emotionally..?..it would probably kill us as that's just too much ...I made a thread of the Nepal Earthquake during the election as well and when I preferred to have it kept 'non political related' in terms of aid getting through etc ..it was hardly posted in...is that because we are all cold people nd lacking of any compassion for those in other countries.../no, it's because a general election in a country is something very important to everyone who lives there...and that was the focus at the time...it's really silly to infer that 'we don't care'....
