Does Quorn bacon taste like normal bacon?

I've never tasted real bacon but I love Quorn crispy bacon so I'm thinking of trying bacon :worry:

LemonJam 18-09-2015 12:15 AM

definitely not. the quorn one tastes of smoky bacon crisps.

Daniel. 18-09-2015 12:15 AM

real bacon ****s

Amy Jade 18-09-2015 12:16 AM

Smoky bacon crisps don't taste like bacon? my life has been a lie :(

Gstar 18-09-2015 01:28 AM

since being scarred for life by quorn mince I don't recommend anything from that cardboard tasting brand. Just have the real thing, you're not gonna die

Jake. 18-09-2015 01:29 AM

I don't know and I'd never want to find out

there are just some things soya can't replace

Jack_ 18-09-2015 02:24 AM

You've never tasted bacon?! Are/were you a veggie?

I couldn't live without bacon/bacon sandwiches. Try it right away :o

kirklancaster 18-09-2015 12:22 PM

In short. No. Only bacon tastes like bacon. And I love bacon.

Crimson Dynamo 18-09-2015 12:32 PM

if bacon was 10

quorn bacon is 5

Dominic 18-09-2015 02:24 PM

bacon is a 0 tho ^

Josy 18-09-2015 02:34 PM

Quorn anything doesn't taste anything like the thing it's trying to pretend to be.

It's like a combination of cardboard and play doh.

Quorn Bacon tastes like ****, so yeah, you'd like normal Bacon.

Suze 18-09-2015 03:28 PM

I Like quorn :) I sometimes make quorn curries or stews :) Don't like the bacon flavour quorn though.

Crimson Dynamo 18-09-2015 03:34 PM

apparently if you slice meat from a human thigh and cook it it tastes like bacon

Firewire 18-09-2015 03:36 PM

If you were a vegetarian or vegan, why would you want to mimic the taste of an animal anyway? I've never understood it.

I've always thought this too, it just doesn't make sense to me.

It's not about the taste, it's about the concept of eating an animal.

Quorn bacon is great, it tastes different (much nicer imo) than bacon. I've never understood the hype for bacon.

It still doesn't make much sense, if you don't like the idea of eating an animal then why eat something that tries to imitate the name or the taste of said animal.

Yeah this confuses me too but I asked my dad a while back and he said that he loved the taste of meat, he just doesn't want to kill them for it as he's an animal lover

Will. 18-09-2015 04:01 PM

I love the taste of meat but don't like that an animals died for it, in not a vegetarian though.

So I guess some vegetarians like the taste and everything of animals but don't like an animals died for it, but they don't mid eating vegetarian meats.

Because it's not an animal, that's the whole point. It's not about not wanting to eat the taste, it's not wanting to eat the animal. And we know it's not an animal so it's ok.

On the Quorn thing, I've been a veggie for 12 years and can't remember what meat even tastes like but the Quorn bacon product is one of the ones furthest from the animal version.
